Mercury1 Turbocharged August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 Its not part of the svc package but I will probably change it soon since the car just hit 50k not too long ago Have you change your ATF during servicing? ↡ Advertisement
donchew76 3rd Gear August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 Yup...my mechatronics uplorry on 79k km due to lifetime ATF:( Cycle preowned wing is Republic:) I think premium auto too under premium select for certified used audi. I went to check out the prices before. Price not competitive compared to new, it seems
Inlinefour Twincharged August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 I think premium auto too under premium select for certified used audi. I went to check out the prices before. Price not competitive compared to new, it seems Totally agreed...especially now coe is cheaper than few years back Used ones depreciation higher than brand new But AD preowned units are covered with warranty and some even have Service inclusive package:) So safer feeling
Zze121 3rd Gear August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 Ownership inclusive of loan and upfront. German conti first hand premium is about 40k 50k liao unlike jap new car price premium which is much lower. Part/repair maint the price diff is not like 20k difference. Voice down to the new car premium price which is why ppl willing to buy 2nd hand conti and with that slightly ex maint is worth as it is compensate by its car safety. Freeder Hypersonic August 7, 2018 Share August 7, 2018 I would get the Merc in terms of reliability and ease of finding parts. If you are getting a used car, you can try to maintain and procure the parts at the workshops outside, unless it's still within AD warranty. Should be cheaper than the AD workshop. Try to get those used cars certified pre-owned by AD or at least assured by the AD people. I think only PML sells certified pre-owned cars under their own agent. However if you are getting a new car, get those with at least 3 years servicing and 5 years warranty. Try to bargain for more credits for servicing in the sales contract if applicable. I would avoid VW at all costs if it is using dry clutch gearbox. I almost wanted to get a Golf 2 years ago if not for its reputation of the gearbox. In the end, get a Japanese. Yes Sir...
KiaCeratoHB 2nd Gear August 8, 2018 Author Share August 8, 2018 (edited) Thanks everyone... I have a better idea now. Not so scary as it seems. Last question, can it last beyond 10 years with normal maintenance? Or need major parts replacement after certain age/mileage? Let's say for a Merc C or E class & BMW X3 Edited August 8, 2018 by KiaCeratoHB

Or need major parts replacement after certain age/mileage? Let's say for a Merc C or E class & BMW X3 More then 10 years Benz alot on the road.BMW much lesser I believe. Major parts replacement very wide. Depend on how Major? Total engine overhaul? Gear box overhaul? This 2 I consider major. Other then that for a 10 years old car. 4 x shock absorber. Engine mounting. Radiator. Alternator. Starter. AC replacement ( compressor . Condenser. Cooling coil block valve etc) Etc etc For these parts to fail and replace after 10 years is very normal. Esp if the previous never touch before.

Lava 5th Gear August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 ts don't hear say hear say conti maintenance cost is high. our mini r56 no major issue after 8yrs at 80kkm. f55 no major issue after 3.5yrs at 50kkm. f54 no major issue (new car) our ranger, no major issue coming to 3 yrs old at 30kkm. our son s60 t2, no major issue after coming to 1 yr old. rule of thumb, I always have them service base on the following sequence: 1. oil + filter change at every 5kkm to 6kkm 2. servicing at every 10kkm at AD, never following the car computer service alert. 3. atf change at every 40kkm
7hm Turbocharged August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 Mine conti 3 years of trouble free motoring except for air-con smell (filter got contaminated by haze) and last month the brake pedal switch uplorry. But everything else about the car was better than the Jap cars. Worth it to me. But my AD has awful pricing on aftersales service - good thing about jap cars is more confidently able to find third party servicing for cheap
DACH Supersonic August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 I think regular servicing (every 10k km mileage) plays a part in the longevity of the car.

Zze121 3rd Gear August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 Rubber parts especially will start to get harden pass 7 to 8 years, they are found everywhere in the car. Metal parts like bearing, engine mounting also need to change. Oil need to flush, pump need to change. Still its cheaper than changing car.
Ct3833 Supersonic August 8, 2018 Share August 8, 2018 (edited) Amongst the 3, Merc would be the best bet in terms of reliability and cost of parts. Some Merc parts are cheaper than Honda parts.Agree. I have been driving old merce for more than 3 years and i have no issue with it. From w211 kompressor, w204 c class to now w212, the maintenance is about as cheap as an altis. And no major issues other than normal wear and tear. Of course just yesterday backside itchy went to buy original mercedes wiper blades which cost me $85 a pair and still got to self help. haha....Judging from the 3 models TS mentioned, i think he is looking for a car with decent power. Ct3833 Supersonic August 9, 2018 Share August 9, 2018 Are the C class 250 1.8 turbo a better bet ?I think so too but my answer might be biased. If i am correct, the 1.8 c250 is only available in w204 which is the older model , the w205 c250 is the 2L engine. C250 is a relatively rare model here. The more common ones are c180 and c200. Lok666 5th Gear August 9, 2018 Share August 9, 2018 My friend who owns a BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer had to fix the car's suspension system recently after accidentally damaging it himself. The repair bill from AD was close to 9k. They initially suspected that steering wheel also had to be replaced which would have brought the total cost to around 20k; luckily it wasn't damaged. The potential bill really gave him a lot of stress and he eventually claimed under his own insurance.
