It sends a clear message to those who have been arguing that it is ok to cycle abreast...... it is confirmed NOT OK.

Some insist on the right to cycle in the middle of lane! :pissed-off:

@Nzy please read this. I hope it removes all doubt, unless yahoo publishes #fakenews.

I have emailed TP to clarify. As this was not what i was told. I have also submitted videos of drivers overtaking me very closely and in some of the videos, I was not on the double yellow lines. I wasn't told it is wrong also.

If cycle abreast not ok, there must be 2 persons being charged.

Based on this report, he is the only cyclist being charged.

You missed point #3. As with every other things, T&C applies.  :excl:

BTW, according to news, he was charged for point #3 in fact...

Cheung was charged with one count of riding his bicycle in a disorderly manner without due regard for the safety of others by riding his bicycle in the middle of the leftmost lane, instead of keeping to the far left edge of the road, hence causing obstructions to faster moving vehicles.

Is it ok to share what the TP's reply was ?

Nobody is saying must cycle on the double yellow lines, where did you read that from ?

Did you tell TP that you were cycling in the MIDDLE of the lane ?

from the wording of the police statement, my belief is that his charged crime is more the case of him driving in the middle of the lane and obstructing traffic more than merely cycling abreast.

i tend to agree with you.  it seemed to me traffic police is charging him for cycling in the middle of the lane.

Don’t worry la, someday someone will pay for it with his life by insisting on his rights when he meet a maniac driver.

Agreed.

To a certain extent, I think TP has to charge him something for being a dickhead.

@Nzy I suggest you take a screenshot or attach the link below, and clarify again with whoever you corresponded with at TP. I do not want to see you being charged in court as it carries a fine of up to S$1,000 or 3 months' jail !!!  :o

Cheung is also charged with breaching traffic rules by riding his bicycle in the middle of the leftmost lane, instead of keeping to the far left edge of the road, thereby causing obstruction to faster moving vehicles.

Waiting for the reply since you want black and white. I asked how far left must we cycle. The TP I encountered is the one that is always stationed outside Thomson medical centre. That one told me so long keep to left lane unless turning right can already.

i am actually quietly disgruntled that he seemed not to have suffered any meaningful injury.......call me a sadist but he deserves it!

Yes maybe out of 10 times, they just close 2 eyes. But it's also good to know that it is a chargeable offence. Cos bro NZY keep saying TP say its ok.

So TP means, it's ok. But we reserve the right to charge you !?  :D

Yeah. I did email them to get black and white on how far left is considered left enough. First email in dec, no reply, I just emailed again.

I also used to cycle on the road alot, always keep very close to the kerb most time in whatever markings there where possible. But I always see those MAMIL cyclists cycling in the middle of the lane thinking they have the right of way.

Now at least there is clarity.
