you don't understand

if so then ministers especially transport minister should lead by example

also claim singapore safest in the region

them minister should take public transport since train boss claim this is the way to go

if gov want to control number of cars on the road there is no need to make car owners pay so many types of taxes

all they have to do is allow x number of cars on the road and sort out the fine prints

if public transport can be improved so there is some semblance of practical and efficient network reaching nearly all places in Singapore via various mode of transport. then many would give up their car.

there is just no will on the part of our authorities. think about the amount of money spent on 800k rubbish bin, how many billions in New airport terminal with lots of grills, how many white elephant tunnels etc

X number of cars in the road. How do you allocate the car to people? Ballot? What about those who really need it and are unlucky? Coe and taxes etc, why do people still pay for it? Because they are willing to pay for it to have a car. It’s market forces again. It’s not the best way, but do you have another way? If not, it’s easy to criticise but what’s the next best solution?

It’s easy to say minister take public transport. If you yourself get to that position, the amount of stress and stuff u have to handle, the public scrutiny, time is a finite resource. Do u see yourself taking public transport? That said, SMRT CEO take train people say wayang. What’s the point of doing it when do what also will be criticised?

And I am surprised u bring up the airport. U do know it’s our future proof right, going by how the world goes now? How to make Singapore competitive still? Really think a lot of people nowadays take things for granted. As a result of a developed society where people are born in a more privileged era

Because they are willing to pay for it to have a car. It’s market forces again. It’s not the best way, but do you have another way? If not, it’s easy to criticise but what’s the next best solution? In formulating policies, first you must have a goal (end-point) in mind, then you work around it.

Please stop feeling sorry for the ministers, they are million times better than us and are millions times paid better than us to handle ALL that is required for the job. It same with other profession; if a doctor bang table and asked you not to smoke but he himself smokes like a chimney. Or if a pastor encourage you donate until it pains even if you need to sell your HDB to downgrade but the pastor stays in Sentosa.

And I am surprised u bring up the airport. U do know it’s our future proof right, going by how the world goes now? How to make Singapore competitive still? Really think a lot of people nowadays take things for granted. As a result of a developed society where people are born in a more privileged era Future proof like India, spent billions on nuclear capabilities but millions live below the poverty line. There must be reasonable balance between the well being of citizens and economic pursues. You know we are in a prolong Bull market and we don't really know what will happen in the next few years whether it will be bear or downright recession. Look at the cost of building and maintaining Gardens by the Bay, just how many Singaporean families are able to afford to visit or how many are willing to pay so much to visit. If you look at the development around the region, we are loosing our relevance bit by bit as neighboring countries progress. Have you wondered why we are not including in the One Belt and One Road, why we need to sell NOL when we have upgrade and expand our ports, we literally have to bend over (without the need for a bar of soap) to get MNC to invest here, our future is NOT cast in stone but precarious. Don't believe me; let me enlighten you, in Singapore we have modern slavery (not with chains) but with debts, disputes with our neighbors would increase as they progress economically etc. Talking about Singaporeans being competitive, we need another or two generations to undo what had been done. We need to re-learn.

Actually the more you say the more u can be rebutted. Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion, be it right or wrong, so just leave it as that then.

yes i agree with you

there are always two sides to a coin

for me, my perspective is citizens well being first (within reasons) and NOT economic prosperity first, without people there is no economic success to speak off. our fore-forefathers sacrifice so to build a reserve for the next generation but when our forefathers time they did not enjoy the fruits of their own forefathers but asked to make further sacrifice for their children. Now many of their children are suffering and they are asked to sacrifice for their future generation. In the mean time these leaders are pay out of this world salary. It should be we the citizens of Singapore, united as one people ......

if you are the company's chairperson and you hire the new CEO who is paid the highest salary in the world, you expect the new CEO takes care of the staff including the chairperson (Citizens who pay his salary) (within reasons) and there is accountability.

If don’t have so many taxes, demand will be higher. With car growth limited and thus coe limited, price of car will go up cos coe will go up. In the end u might pay even more upfront. That’s how market demand works as supply is restricted.

In the end, it’s just how u pay for it. No choice for our small country. Cheap car get stuck in 2 hr jam don’t think u want that.

To manage traffic on the road, we always have ERP.  Unfortunately, it is not fully utilised yet.

To maximise ERP gantry return, we should charge ERP based on the difference btw legal speed and 3mths rolling average traffic speed.

0 - 10: $0

11 - 20: $10

21 - 30: $20

31 - 40: $30

41 - 50: $40

> 50: $50

This charging system encourage road user to drive prudently within speed limit while ensuring maximum traffic flow.

And you will help every motorist to pay for these new charges, else talk is cheap.
