carloverguy2017 5th Gear December 27, 2018 Share December 27, 2018 So I bought a used 10 year old car. What happens next year if I go for inspection and inspection fails ? I suspect the cat in the exhaust was modified or deleted ... Can I buy a cat to install ? ↡ Advertisement
flashbang Turbocharged December 27, 2018 Share December 27, 2018 Then you end up with a lemon car. Pray it's a common make and you can find a scrapyard cat, else you have a very expensive display car.
Watwheels Supersonic December 27, 2018 Share December 27, 2018 The answer is obvious what. If the exhaust system has been tempered with, especially with the cat, the inspection test will be immediate failure. You could be facing a fine too for tempering with the cat. Mockngbrd Supersonic December 27, 2018 Share December 27, 2018 (edited) You will have to buy new exhaust system lo. So easy. If you buy a cat to install, it will have to be oem and original. Also you will need to instruct the welder to do swee swee or else you will still fail if there are visible welding marks. If it fails , go get it fixed . there is no need to live in uncertainty. It may not even fail and may not be catalytic converter unless you have credible evidence to think so. It depends on what car, catalytic converter should be less than S$500 Edited December 27, 2018 by Ct3833

Many yards around, can try Kheng keng, got a stock exhaust for my FD there Edited December 27, 2018 by SiLangKia
Apple-Tree 6th Gear December 27, 2018 Share December 27, 2018 If the CAT is removed, the Engine Check light sure lightup one. Of course, the way to fix it, is to REMOVE the check light bulb lor. Problem solved. So when you turn on the engine before cranking it, did the CEL light up for lamp test ? Anyway, 2008 car, anyhow test will also pass lor. Only car registered 2014 onward need to worry, it is said to be very regimental lor, a slight mod also will fail the test. So I bought a used 10 year old car. I am not aware of this 2014 "rule" . This is something new. Yes thanks for all comments, I didn't want to inspect it since it's not due until 2019 year end. Just want to know what will happen and how to resolve if it does fail. I had a friend who's been driving rex for many years whom told me he highly suspect the cat was amiss. No CEL though. Maybe I too overly worried.. haha
Xers007 Supercharged December 28, 2018 Share December 28, 2018 Pay some workshop to send in your car for inspection. For some reason they can always pass inspection no matter how mod a car is.
