Johor Sultan willing to hand over land to Pakatan Harapan government if it is part of rail link to Singapore

 

JOHOR BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar is willing to hand over his plot of land in the state to the federal Pakatan Harapan (PH) government without any cost if the site is utilised for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) rail project to Singapore.

Because some quarters over there tried to point finger about high cost of the RTS and delays linked to acquiring land belonging to the Sultan. Now Sultan himself announce that he willing to give it for free if needed for RTS. So what more excuse about delay and cost?

“The RTS clearly does not solve the traffic congestion between Singapore and Malaysia. If we build the train it can’t carry all the passengers who are going to and from Singapore and it can’t carry all the motorcycles. The train is limited in terms of capacity,” Mahathir said.

 

It seems that this old fart is not keen on this project.

Who says anything about motorcycle congestion? Frankly, the jams were caused mostly by bikes or cars?

 

I was thinking if this goes thru, probably may need a MSCP near both causeways cos one can just park n ride the train in and after that, to return to car n drive home.

 

Anyways, this is just another issue to show who is MORE POWERFUL or has more rights or authority.

 

Sultan says take back FOC with 1 condition. Dr M says its belongs to the govt/country in the first place, just take back. But if Sultan did pay for it, pay him and still take back.

 

Looks like another deal going up in smoke or ashes soon.

 

But the reason for not building it is nonetheless, unsound. Its as though Johore cannot benefit or should not profit or profit a little bit.

 

Lets see who really have the final say. And frankly, not seen relationship so terse before. Guess alot of ppl are really really fed up.

Give back the land. Then crooked doc declare bo lui to build RTS. Then give the land to a Bersatu crony to build condo n the whole gang takes a 10% cut from the deal. Usual story

May or may not solve congestion, I agree. Most of the congestion is due to vehicular traffic. You ask these people to take to take RTS, but then what do they do when reach the terminal station? Still need their vehicle to travel to their exact destination. So for those using their bikes to commute, will still find it convenient to stick to their bikes in spite of the jam.

 

As for singaporeans crossing over for grocery shopping etc. not convenient to use RTS too as need their vehicles to transport shopping or go further out from JB.

 

The RTS is only attractive option to those who travel by cross-causeway bus nowadays.

Disagree with your opinion. Will it relieve jams? No cos there's other vehicular traffic esp goods. but its definitely going to help with daily commuters.

 

Out of which there are thousands of people crossing daily every day.

Bus riders definitely will consider if the price difference is not great. The JB-SIN primary and sec school kids surely will benefit.

 

Practically speaking, as long as customs and immigration can support the clearance of these people, rail or mass rapid transport will be great.

RTS will be totally different from buses.

 

If you take KTM now it's quite fast, clear immigration at station not CIQ. However, there are limited train schedule now so you have to book tickets way advance. If RTS does the same but with regular intervals schedule then certainly it will be very convenient.

Major difference will be signalling between trains. That's what mass rapid can do vs the ktm line.

 

In fact the only limitation will be customs. But this service will likely cater to mostly regular travellers which automated clearance can at least get rid of some of the barriers.

My friend who used to commute by motorcycle between JB and SG told me many JB people, if given a choice would not want to ride a bike as they had to endure the air pollution while waiting in queue to cross the cause way. He later took a loan from his company to buy a car and gave up the bike. I'm sure there will be many who would prefer not to ride if given another commuting option.

like you said KTM has “limited” interval

that’s why clear custom is chop chop

if RTS ... i dont know both custom can handle

this will be the same problem when MRT cannot handle the increase passengers
