These are good questions, and hopefully NEH have valid and useful supporting evidences when making his statement in the Parliament. To many working adults exposed to internal or external audit, these are the basic requirements when responding to questions.

Ms Joan Pereira (Tanjong Pagar GRC), one of the 17 MPs who filed questions, hopes more light will be shed on procedures in the SAF for reporting near-misses, to catch loopholes in safety practices.

Non-Constituency MP Daniel Goh of the Workers' Party (WP) asked whether national servicemen go through adequate training and safety refresher courses before taking part in exercises, and if the design of the Singapore Self-Propelled Howitzer - which Mr Pang was conducting repair work in when the accident happened - will be reviewed.

WP chief Pritam Singh (Aljunied GRC) filed an adjournment motion, "National Service - Balancing Operational Readiness, Safety and the Will to Fight", according to the Parliament order paper published yesterday. He will speak on national service at the end of Monday's sitting.

Sounds like Pritam being a Reservist Major is going to remind Parliament on the need for safety but not at the expense of Ops readiness. Too cautious and training gets unrealistic, Too gung ho n safety may be compromised as soldiers cut corners to ensure timing and a pass mark is achieved. How to balance??

Take the less realistic path n less lives will be lost. We should not train train like as if war is coming tomorrow. A balance can never be strike.

maybe the whole saf system need to revamp,

rather then spending billions on hardware like f35.

use the budget to get more regulars.

its not as if we are lack of funds.

pass on those important responsibility to regulars.

ns still keep, but as a slower pace etc etc.

esp ict, totally no need for ATEC

One celebrity lost his life and the whole garment goes into debate.

So why did it not happen sooner? Cos the rest that died are not famous enough? This is what that disgusted me most.

Quite frankly the truth hurts. I suspect it's human error that did not adhere to

protocols rather than the system to be blamed.

One old man die, fast hand fast leg want to build a memorial for him. But when hundreds of guys serving NS died during training, only insurance payout and move on.

There should also be a memorial for our brothers in green (not a small one tucked in a corner) next to the planned Founders Memorial. No reason why they should not have one.

If it was a war and saf soldiers died then ok. If death during peacetime and a memorial was setup means everyone will be able to see and remember the numerous training deaths and this is a no no.

because they know that by pushing for the founders temple... they are actually reserving a future statue parking lot for themselves.

Those they shortlisted to be in the memorial like Raffles will have only a small area reserved for him, more for a no choice option since they can't openly dedicate the memorial for a certain old man.

Let's see what they'll do.

If it was a war and saf soldiers died then ok. If death during peacetime and a memorial was setup means everyone will be able to see and remember the numerous training deaths and this is a no no.

If Mindef is not willing to come to terms with the training deaths, all the safety recommendations are for show only.

Another death will occur again in no time.

Just realise Aloysius was not granted a posthumous promotion from his CFC rank. If not mistaken, most of the others who passed on like the NS man who died after a march/run was promoted posthumously. Any idea why some get promoted whilst others don’t?

Some of the others were outright killed by the commanders (smoke grenade, etc).

Narrative for this one seems to be pushing towards Pang's own fault.

BTW, the commando drowning years ago, was the regular promoted?

Another guess is that the others were NSF so they were promoted the rank that they would otherwise have gotten if they didn't die before the ORDed.

Whereas Pang is an NSmen who wouldn't have been promoted further.
