B&B class is still wide. Typical main stream B&B cat like, altis, Civic, Impreza, mazda3, k3, avente got VES bonus?

Probably the ves only benefit to the lower grade level B&B car type. Do we see more of such car on the road then other classes?

What i am trying to say is, some of the cars used to have zero or even CEVS subsidies but now get VES tax, these are the cars that will not see reduction in price.

But for cars like Civic, Altis, Elantra/Avente, these cars used to have no CEVS and likewise now there is zero VES, these are the cars that are enjoying reduction in price.

for example:

Altis        2015 - 103k

                now - 89k

Civic      2015 - 109k

                now - 93k

Elantra S 2015 - 102k

Avante   S  now - 74k(promo)

I have $70 k, more than enough to buy SUV Lexus in US, but not enough to buy lousy sedan Avante in Singapore. Is Singapore a developed country or third world country?

Singapore is definitely a developed country with a world class public transport system.

The good public transport system is why cars can be priced high as most people can get by with the cheap and efficient public transport system.

If you make a necessity item in life (of the majority) unaffordable, it will result in a revolt sooner or later. The fact that Singapore is a very stable democracy points to the fact that car ownership is not a necessity here and that the alternative such as public transport, taxi or private hire are affordable and gets people to where they want to be.

If you can ban all SG government officers from using car (ie all SG government officers and their families use public transportation like normal Singaporeans) then I will believe car ownership is not necessary.

Delevoped country is a country that its citizens are happy and can enjoy life because they can afford basic housing and car ownership.

Land is scarce in Singapore. Govt is doing its best to make cars very expensive. Without the govt good planning, you can expect jams to occur at all times of the day.

We should appreciate what LTA has done. Their policy may not be prefect , but there is no way they can please everyone. The latest group they targeted are those driving diesel cars.

Hahaha. Not so different class lah.

But I do get your point on B&B cars.

Seriously you go to the Mercedes forum, those folks do not talk about COE up or down, they talk about specs , upgrade features before buying their cars etc , VES or not is never in their discussion. Obviously my income is not at their level to understand their thoughts. Haha.

Something is not right in current context.

Jam is due to qty of the vehicle, not the “quality” (cost adder) of the vehicle. The cost of the vehicle should base on the market sentiment instead of intervention like VES.

In another words, how could the jam be reduced by increase the cost of the car? Just cut half the quota of car vs increase the cost car ownership for next 10 year, see the jam will reduce base on cost or # of coe quota

VES is a scheme to push/pull buyers to adopt cars that are less polluting. VES is not meant for vehicle population control. It is to control the emission and therefore directly linked to the air quality that we enjoy.. or sometimes don't enjoy when there are forest fire banning in Indonesia or during peak hour traffic when there are more emissions from vehicles.
