Besides, the commando formation (which the SOF is part of) is very small and close-nit, and every regular knows each other. All our trainers are CDO/SOF regulars and we all hear stories from time-to-time. Personally, I have good recollections of Fred - once during NSF, and twice during NS when he was our reservist commander. Every morning, we will form a big circle in the parade square and do animal PT. Can't cheat because for push up, one command down, hold there, until he is satisfied everyone is in that position without touching the floor, then another command to go up. After repetitions, he will move on to another animal push-up. After push up, we moved on to sit up. It was very exhausting after a few hundred push-up, sit up, and runs, but we try our best as he did the full works with us. He truly leads by example, even in his late forties/early fifties.
