On collection day itself, we arrived at a little past 7am and spotted our rental car. Upon confirmation of booking, the number plate of your rental car will also be indicated on the pdf file sent to you.

They say 'When in Rome, do as the Romans do' right? What other car to choose from than the Myvi 1.3 VVT LX. It's also the 2018 3rd gen Myvi. Quite a new car. The Wahdah sticker is only pasted on the bottom front windscreen on the left hand side.

attachicon.gifIMG_20190315_072034.jpg

Exterior wise looks good. I was expecting an older looking and worn out car. Some minor scratches here and there and some scratches and paint chips on the bumper. Interior is clean. Phone mount & holder is provided for GPS usage.

The Myvi has all the necessary basic features. No fancy high tech features. Bluetooth for connecting your phone's music/spotify. Dual USB for charging your phones. Decent boot space. Windows are quite tinted.  [laugh]

Collection was straightforward and hassle free. Showed my booking document to the Person in Charge. Checked the car and indicated which parts already scratched on the paper.

Within 5 minutes the key was in our hands.  [drivingcar]

thanks for the information, will consider renting from there since is conveniently next to JB sentral CIQ.

Collection and drop off at CIQ has extra charges.. Rented from them before and I have to agree that its fuss-free. Reasonable price too.

Yeap. About SGD 7 each for collection and return to be CIQ. Very affordable. How long did you waited before the deposit was refunded to you?

Enroute to Cameron Highlands via Simpang Pulai. We had a slow slow drive. Comfortable cruising speed for this little 1.3 Myvi was best at about 110km/hr to 130km/hr, max 140. Sweet spot is at 110 imo. Very smooth to drive. Anything faster steering becomes a little too light for my liking. No point driving fast with an Eco car also. [drivingcar] We took about 7 hours plus to reach the place we were staying with one lunch stop and one pit stop for refuel.

Would totally recommend renting at least a 1.5cc though if you're driving far north or intending to drive up mountains with it, for more comfort (power). As the saying goes there is no replacement for displacement. Price difference not much anyway.

Where we stayed, Father's Guesthouse. Backpackers style. Parking available just next to it, if not you can just park across it along the streets.

It is situated at Tanah Rata but away from all the hustle and bustle. Previously trips I stayed at Golden Hills and also Strawberry Park Resort but decided to stay in a more quiet part of Cameron this time. Father's House is just a minute or two drive away from the restaurants at Tanah Rata. You can even walk there.

attachicon.gifIMG_20190315_162951.jpg

That's our Myvi parked right next to the guesthouse.

How it looks like at night:

Very chill vibe to this whole place. Usually you'll have many Caucasians enjoying a beer or two with their friends out on these benches. This is just one building. At the back of this place is another guesthouse, which I stayed at.

1.5cc ??? You meant 1,500cc ???

your ciq option is also good but harder for people travelling in a family like me?

If you are at the top of Brinchang driving down towards the Tanah Rata direction, you'll be able to spot a Gift and Specialty shop on your right. I don't know the exact location but you'll know because they have the entire large size Doraemon family statue just outside their shop.

At a place like Cameron where there's not much activities or things to buy, this shop is worth a short visit. They have baby items on the left of the shop, you'll find plants from flowers to cactus inside their shop, and many souvenirs. From the usual Cameron magnets, to keychains, to other non-Cameron Highlands related souvenirs. They even have Avengers keychains, cars and motorcycles diecast.

Entrance to the shop.

Hypersonic

Anybody who's been to Cameron, has surely been to Boh Tea as well. There's two Boh Tea Plantations. One at the lower part of Cameron Highlands which is smaller and easier to go while the bigger and more popular one is at Brinchang - Sungai Palas Boh Tea Plantation. I've been to both and I would say I prefer the view of the bigger Boh Tea, but the smaller one is less crowded and nicer to just have a cup of tea with your friends and enjoy the view.

The drive up to Boh Tea might also be relatively challenging for a new driver or someone unfamiliar with it. Single lane to accommodate a two-way traffic but most drivers go slowly here and will give way to each other. If you can't see whats in front of a bend, just sound your horn to warn. Glad we rented a Myvi and not anything bigger!

Beware of pot holes as well. Went down one huge ass pot hole that was camouflaged by what we thought was a harmless puddle of water while giving way to the oncoming car on the right.  [dead]

Back at Boh Tea because it's my friend's first visit to Cameron Highlands!

The cafe at Boh Tea is crowded, always crowded and expensive. Food is also very mediocre. There's nothing much to do up there except enjoy the breeze and the greens and do some tea shopping. Though I must say their products are readily available at supermarkets anyway.

There is a shuttle bus service at Newton circus car park that goes to JB

I would think if you have to take public transport to JB, should consider the yellow cab (malaysia taxi) that operates from Rochor to JB? More convenient in the sense you don't have to alight at the custom for immigration. Many many years when I took it, was $10 per pax in SG, and RM20 if you take from JB? Not sure if the rates have increased. You'll have to share the taxi with strangers to hit full capacity of 4 passengers.

@acemundo I checked the shuttle charges for you. 2-way $200+? Sounds expensive if you ask for my opinion. That's in SGD.

@babyblade you are the best!  thanks for checking. agree with you that it doesn't make sense if S$100 (RM300) one way when my entire car rental for 4 days about Rm640.  is it easy to get the yellow johor cabs any time we hail it at rochor?  but i also have a problem, we have 5 pax (2 adults and 3 kids).....the jb cabs at rochor can't close one eye to take 5 pax even if 3 of them are kids?  any one knows any grab like service for singapore into jb? hehe
