Denying a patient his medical scans

Ok guys, I know there are some docs in this forum so I need some advice.

I have a old back issue which gives me leg pain. So I went to see a specialist in Jan this year in a public hospital. I asked the doc to see if it could be peripheral arterial issue and he said is very unlikely but an ultrasound will clear it up. He set up an ultrasound in Feb and followup appt in April.

So i went for the ultrasound and the guy doing it verbally said everything looks ok and I will get my report through the doctor. Fast forward to April, my back is improving so I decided to cancel the followup appt and just want my ultrasound results.

I called hospital and they refused to release the scan result (which I paid for) to me without me fixing an appt with the doctor. First thing I found out was, no doctor annotated on the results for over two months.... so if the scan showed something wrong, I bet treatment will be delayed for 2 months.

Is this legal? Can't I change doctor and obtain the scan result and see my own doctor outside? Is there anything I can do  to convince them to give me my scan results without setting up another appt.

I don’t actually get the gist of it to cancel the appt but I did pay $35/- but the doc himself waived the charges since I was discharged and no follow up required but they said if the pain comes back like within a year I can still come back ( actually to see the specialist doc at CGH) many years back and got a FOC copy of the MRI report , CD cost is seperate of course anyways glad that you’re doing better already

I just don't want to waste my time going down to the hospital for nothing. Also don't waste the doctor time.

Anyone has any ideas how to get the scan results without a visit to the hospital? I mean what if I want to change doctor? I never had any such issue when I did scans with private hospitals.

I doubt so....  got to waste an hour or so ; like my case the doctor waived off the fees as he said ..... all is well and this was in NTF

Even for Insurance Claim i had to pay a small fee to the Registry Records Office (I think that's what they call it in CGH ) for records of the concerned hospital to get records and also had to waste not only time but money also, looks like no choice...BTW this was for maids admission to hospital for surgery

Public Hospital won't release the results cos its their own internal investigations. There's no hard copy anyway unlike pte radiology clinics.

If u had attended the clinic follow up in person. Usually if u request, the doctor will print a copy for you.

Pte hospitals everything has hard copy cos that's how pte overseas pt prefer as they may bring it to other specialists or back home.

In this situation, u have to go down Submit identification and ask the MRO to release the info to u and yes u have to pay.

U can complain until cows come home but thats the way it is.

It's just like asking university of official transcript of your university exam results

A radiology dept of the hospital is a service of the hospital. Not a stand alone unit.

oh! didnt know can do online...... me mountain tortoise... but I remember it took quite a while for them to send me the docs, over 2-3 weeks back then

It's admin work being done by a few admin staff. If got medical report, they have to get the doctor to write it which is generally Low priority admin work that they do in their spare time.

Can you check if your results is available in Health Buddy? You can access via App or Website.

Health Buddy is for appointments only. Do not have your medical records. I am using health buddy to look at my various specialist appointments.

All these are your medical information leh.

U know all the hoo hah recently with singhealth, hiv registry leak/hack etc etc. There's a legal and ethical demand on the institution and healthcare worker to keep things confidential.

U definitely won't get anywhere demanding over the phone for people to send your medical info to you.

That's why there's a medical records office for every hospital or institution.

If u need a medical report written by a doctor, we maybe summoned to court for that. And no sane person wants to be questioned by a lawyer.

You can request but there's always a fee. Like people buy insurance or whatever got to request for all sorts of medical reports and history.

You have to pay yourself usually for the med report. Especially if its like application for new insurance.

If its claiming insurance, sometimes can reimburse.

That's why buy health insurance early when u can just put nothing to declare.
