DIY punctured tyre

Coming back home last night the car tyre monitoring system indicated a leak in front R tyre. Checked it out upon reaching home and indeed discovered a nail.

1. Extracted the nail out with an orange pliers.

2. Plug in a round file to smoothen and enlarge the hole.

3. Standby the sticky worm inserted into the needle eyes.

4. Insert into the hole with some force, with about 3/4 way in and pulled it out quickly.

5. Spray some water or bubbled one to check for leak.

I pumped up the tyre a bit with a portable inflatable pump and drove to a petrol kiosk to fully inflate the tyres and do a reset on the tyre monitoring system.

Do note that I am on RFT and hence could drive back home. Non RFT tyre should find a safe place to stop immediately and proceed to mend the tyre.

Lucky me it was the front tyre, might need to take it off if it was at the rear which would restrict the hand movements.

Fun, yes,

Satisfaction, oh yes.

Haha, you are damn good! Can snap step-by-step photos that come with instructions!

First thing when the tyre punctured, instinct tells me to start a thread in mcf. Hahahhaha

Joke aside, all reair kits from Ali or taobao. I just ordered another set with metal handle. The plastic one I just used disintegrated into pieces after i pulled the plug out. I kept inside the car for more than a decade.

Haha I used to have those worms. But got lazy over the years and also now prefer an internal patch . Did it only 2-3times in the past 20years. Other times I managed to discover the puncture early and pumped enough air to last to the shop to get it mended via internal patch.

Would recommend to everyone to carry an air pump and just inflate it enough to get you to the shop to get it repaired via internal patch. Most punctures are not catastrophic where all the air leaks out. But rather a nail or screw where the leak is slow. So just an air pump is more than enough.

The toughest worm I had to do was on a back tire and the hole was at an angle and not straight in. Took some effort lying on the ground. Lots of Kpkb in the end hahha.

I was also looking for internal patch when I had tyre puncture, but all shops I asked only do the work thing.

Where are the shops you know that do internal patch? I also prefer these over worm, if time permits.

Thanks.

I googled both and looks like they are far from Punggol area where I stay.

Any recommendation of internal patch in North/Northeast area?

Thanks.

The patch isn't meant to be long term... Still need to get that tyre replaced.

I kenna before. Thought after patch can drive happily ever after.. Then flat again after a few weeks

If using the worm, the external part needs to be trimmed. If not, the part will loosen the sealing as it rubs against the road surface.

I thought internal patch is the recommend repair and will last the life of the tire. It’s the worm repair that is temporary, but I have driven till the tire is worn with the worm too.

I always get workshop to do a $10 worm patching whenever I get a nail in my tyre.

They always coat with a layer of liquid (glue?) before inserting the worm. Thereafter, they trim off the worm neatly.

I never have any leak issue thereafter and I always thought this is the standard practice until income across "internal patching" here.

Internal patching is the best way. More work is involved as it need to remove tyre from rim. And it will be more ex.

My regular tyre shop charge $15 for internal patching which is good price.

A lot of workshops don't want to do internal patch. Where's your WS? 15 is very reasonable.

$15 is cheap. Lousy lazy shops already charge $12 for the worm. And they don’t even remove the tire or check for leaks after the job. Just a cursory spraying of soapy water around if they even bother. And most will fob you off, saying can wan......
