We somewhat expected this But it came sooner.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Alphabet Inc's Google has suspended business with Huawei that requires the transfer of hardware and software products except those covered by open source licenses, a source close to the matter told Reuters on Sunday, in a blow to the Chinese technology company that the U.S. government has
sought to blacklist around the world.

Details of the specific services were still being discussed internally at Google, according to the source. Huawei attorneys are also studying the impact of the U.S. Commerce Department's actions, a Huawei spokesman said on Friday. Huawei was not immediately reachable for further comment.

Representatives of the U.S. Commerce Department did not immediately have comment.

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd will immediately lose access to updates to the Android operating system, and the next version of its smartphones outside of China will also lose access to popular applications and services including the Google Play Store and Gmail app.

Huawei will continue to have access to the version of the Android operating system available through the open source license that is freely open to anyone who wishes to use it.

But Google will stop providing any technical support and collaboration for Android and Google services to Huawei going forward, the source said.

On Thursday the Trump administration officially added Huawei to a trade blacklist, immediately enacting restrictions that will make it extremely difficult for the technology giant to do business with U.S. companies. [nL2N22S1RG]

Huawei is such a good phone. Anyway Huawei have their own app store. So it's now up to all individuals that have the app in Google and apple store to whether to also create an app in Huawei app store too. If it happened quickly, I guess there will still have impact, but not to the extend of randering Huawei phone useless. Huawei can also just sell theor phone to Chinese Market too.

Losing access to play store will be the final nail in the coffin, unless u just need to run chinese apps.

Or can use the alternate Chinese developed OS which is in the works

So Apple's Iphone and their software not affected by the ban?

or not yet?

now Iphone in china is more like foreign import status symbol rather than being truly useful for their own internal market's apps.

Foxconn (apple's main subcon) employs close to 1 million people directly or indirectly in china.

So not so simpur...

And terry gou is running for TW president. And he's more CN friendly.

I don't think politically they will target apple directly.

Then perhaps ban iphone in china.. Just find an excuse

as above

Meaning to say, existing Huawei phone user no need to worry anything. Everything will function as per usual. Only thing is that if android have new version update, Huawei will not be able to get it and update to Huawei existing phone users.

Minewhile those haven't bought Huawei phone want considering buy one. Buy one now = can't use Google play store and etc already.

So those already bought p30 Pro and do not intend to sell off, its actually not that bad. Use for 1 or 2 years by then change new hp.

WTH. I hope Huawei will issue announcement on how they will deal with it and any refund policy for those users with hp that are still under warranty.

I'm sure Huawei is already getting alot of questions from current users.

Many will ask for refunds.

How independent can Google be if they follow the instructions of their supreme leader.

Truly hope that Huawei comes up with something good for their own OS otherwise it just instilled the AMDK mindset on everyone and we need to either follow them or be bullied around should we decide to stand up again them

Huawei already have their own app store. But I never use it at all. Hopefully their app store is usuer friendly and is in English. That may give more incentives for developers and or companies to create/have apps in the Huawei app store.
