Ysc3 Twincharged June 13, 2019 Share June 13, 2019 Education does not work. Period. Caning might, plus make their estate pay for damages caused to cars, even if they die in accidents caused by their own recklessness (not stupidity - I don't believe they are stupid). ↡ Advertisement
cckboy 2nd Gear June 14, 2019 Share June 14, 2019 my take is the most of them are ignorant of how invisible they are on the road. They always assume drivers will see them and give way to them. Also, most of them dont drive and do not understand traffic rules. Like the video i posted, he probably din know what the green arrow is for. All he sees are the cars stopped at the traffic light and off he goes despite the red man is on. I hope something can be done on educating all pmd users on the risks they are exposed to. It is easlier said than done, but a mandatory training class for these users when they register their pmds will be useful. Those reckless PMD users are mostly youngsters (of course there are older one), and most of them never go through road safety and driving courses/examinations like us. The DO NOT have any sense on road safety and NO defensive driving skill. A sudden upgrade from bicycle to PMD without qualification is too dangerous. Look at those reckless drivers (that went through training and exams) at road, and think we can trust those youngster to handle the machine safely? It's not exactly solely their fault to be reckless, they are just not qualified to ride PMD.
Ysc3 Twincharged July 10, 2019 Share July 10, 2019 Man who rode e-scooter on road, crashed into car, chooses jail time over fine Engrossed in checking the route on his mobile phone, a 27-year-old man riding his electronic scooter on the road one night did not notice that the car he was speeding towards had stopped. Seow Wei Ming ended up crashing into the back of the car and hitting his head on its rear windscreen. On Wednesday (July 10), he was handed a fine of S$2,000, but chose to serve eight days in jail instead as he could not pay it. He pleaded guilty to endangering the personal safety of others and riding his personal mobility device on the road. Another charge of not having lights on his e-scooter was taken into consideration for sentencing. The court heard that the incident happened on July 30 last year, at about 10.30pm. Seow was riding his e-scooter on the left lane of the main road along Sembawang Crescent, in the direction of Sembawang Way. Mr Zhi Qiuyu, then aged 54, was driving behind Seow at first before he overtook the rider. About 15 seconds later, Mr Zhi stopped his car at the roadside to pick up his wife. Seow was looking down at the GPS on his mobile phone, as he planned to make a right turn. He did not notice Mr Zhi’s car and ran smack into it, just as the other man’s wife opened the car door and was about to enter. Video footage of the incident, taken from the vehicle’s rear in-car camera, was played in court. At the time, the roads were relatively clear and visibility was good. Seow called the police for help and was taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in an ambulance. He sustained a cut on his scalp, loose teeth and small cuts on his foot, and was given three days of medical leave. Mr Zhi had to pay S$100 to repair his cracked windscreen. Deputy Public Prosecutor Angela Ang noted that Seow had “ample time” to slow down and stop, and the lack of lights on his e-scooter “inherently increased the danger”. “It was fortuitous that he only collided into a car and not a person, though it was unfortunate that he suffered injuries,” she added. Seow gave his own mitigation plea in court, promising he would not do it again and pointing out that Mr Zhi had parked illegally along a double yellow line. For endangering the personal safety of others through a negligent act, he could have been jailed up to three months, fined up to S$1,500, or both. For riding his e-scooter on the road, he could have been jailed for up to three months, fined up to S$2,000, or both.
Bluebull 2nd Gear July 12, 2019 Share July 12, 2019 What is the very first thing that we have to pass in order to eventually drive a motorised vehicle on the roads? Highway code / basic theory. So we know how we should behave while driving a vehicle on the roads. The PMD riders are using the very same roads and even walkways yet have no idea of the basics taught in the highway code / basic theory. This, I feel, is where the disconnect is.

Ct3833 Supersonic July 23, 2019 Share July 23, 2019 PMDs are burning down more houses, especially HBDs than never before. PMDs are being rode recklessly at high speed on the road, causing danger to the riders themselves and other road users. PMDs are causing danger, injuring and hurting both young and old pedestrains on the used to be peaceful foot path. PMD riders are creating road rage that we have never seen without PMDs before. PMD riders are causing trouble to the enforcement officers. The authority is still procrastinating what to do with PMDs?
