Over HK$5 million has been raised through a crowdfunding campaign to place front-page newspaper ads in international newspapers urging readers to pressure G20 leaders to act over the city’s extradition law crisis. The fundraiser achieved its original HK$3m goal within hours on Tuesday, as over 20,000 donors made contributions.

what caught my attention 3 million within hours. 20000 donors only!

Worries grow in Singapore over China’s calls to help ‘motherland’

https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/worries-grow-singapore-over-chinas-calls-help-motherland

“It’s very messy. We are Chinese, but we are Singaporean, too,” said Mr Chan, vice-president of the Teochew Poit Ip Clan Association in Singapore. “When China becomes stronger, we feel proud. China is like the big brother.”

But there are growing concerns here that a rising China could tip that carefully orchestrated balance by seeking to convert existing cultural affinities among Singaporean Chinese into loyalty to the Chinese “motherland”.

In recent years, China has stepped up people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, helping to organise conferences bringing together overseas Chinese, arranging visits for Singaporean Chinese to their ancestral villages and coordinating study abroad programs and “roots-seeking camps” for young Singaporeans.

These kinds of programs are not unique to China, of course. The camps, for example, bear some similarity to Israel’s popular Birthright program. They are often arranged and paid for in part by Chinese government agencies like the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office.

In a description of one such camp held this year, participating Singaporean students were promised a full itinerary of activities including lessons in Chinese calligraphy and history. At another camp, in 2014, the schedule included learning the martial art of tai chi and singing Communist “red” songs.

no no no... its more important to fix people like leong and sheng wu... get your priorities right  :a-noway:

report stated they received the HK$3 million from 20,000 ppl within hours mah, so short a time frame, can get this kind of result is very good liao leh.

2 million on the street, but took 20000 to collect HK$3 million in a few hrs.

WP collected $500,000 from close to 3000 ppl in one day. Given there are 2.35 million votes, 30% opp votes about 700,000, so about 0.4% donated to WP ( assuming no pap supporter donated which is not possible). But here most gave $100 because that time was ah gong gave bonus, compare to avg of HK$150, about 3 times.

so quite reasonable leh...

2  million vs 700,000 is about 3 times, but 20000 vs 3000 is close to 7 times..

in fact more ppl in hk donated compare to the WP donation, but here the amount donated seem to be higher compare to HK..

Maybe the protesters took our WP donation as a reference, the numbers seem quite similar... [:p]  [laugh]  [laugh]
