LTA should change the law to only allow buyers to bid the COE for themselves. Only with the paper secured should the buyers go shop for the car.

In this case, the dealers can only quote prices w/o COE. No more guaranteed or non-guaranteed COE or COE rebate nonsense.

Not sure if LTA ever explained why this wasnt the case.

Because if they will to allow only individual to bid, COE price will drop which will affect the government income. One does not need to be a PHD to understand this.

Even IF there is a rule change that says individual buyers shall bid the COE under their own names, and car dealers cannot lump COE and Car in a single package.

There will be businesses that will set up to specially help the individual to just bid for COE. These business will likely rent a corner in ALL dealerships to offer this service.

Perhaps something like a service charge of $288 where the new business will loan(legalised money lender) $10,000 and help the carbuyer to bid COE.

In the end lazy(but rich) car buyers will just pass their IC and LTA transaction PIN code to the new business to bid the COE on buyers behalf.

I don't see how LTA (or anyone here can think of) the self-bid COE rule/system to be made fool-proof.

As a parent with kids, I think if you can afford it and still live comfortably, eat well and go for trips, a car is still good to have. You can:-

1. Save time on transport (more time for kids)

2. Go to places only accessible by cars or made convenient by cars (e.g. would you go Jurong birdpark, zoo, sentosa etc if you lived far like in the north east?)

3. Eat good food. Supposing you live in Eunos, would you travel down to even Kovan (fast by car) just for a meal and come back, without a car? You will probably end up somewhere nearby

4. Bring your family to various nature places all over SG, especially for kids.

If it improves the quality of life, it is probably worth it. Money can be earned, but time lost will never be recovered. The main thing about cars is the convenience and time saved. If your money is enough, I would say go ahead and spend on it.

True, if a person can afford and can able to drive a car without any problems, i would also say go ahead and buy one. Having a car indeed one of the nice thing to have. You would learn to appreciate having a car when you have one. Although car is not a need, it is more like a want. Actually many times you still can do and go many places without having a car la, just that whether you like it or not.

Get a basic car like the Perodua Bezza $43K or Mitsubishi Attrage $45K, registered as OPC if you drive only at night and on weekends.

$4K annual dep for the convenience is reasonable. And you also get $500 off the annual rd tax and cheaper insurance.

Looks like coe will drop again. PI kept asking me if still interested to but a car. Got good deal with 7 yrs loan 1.88%.

My guess:
Cat A $26.8k
Cat B $32.5k

This is a good idea for PHV who want to specialislse in just driving at night.

If most people worry about the technical recession, maybe coe might drop further. But due to the new mazda 3, i see like AD has collected many booking for mazda 3 and mazda 6?!

I thought PI will call and try to get business, no matter what the COE prices are?  ^_^

Will the buyers of the new Mazda 3 and 6 prop up the COE price this Wed? Likewise the newly launched Mercs?  [confused]

I see the buying demand for the Ceratos and Avantes is still going strong as well.
