we had 97 pts from the current squad mainly cos the key players - Alisson, VVD and the front 3 were largely available throughout the season, esp for Alisson and VVD who were evergreen.  The front 3 operates well when all 3 play.. the moment 1 or 2 are out, the replacement players do not click that well.. except for Origi who came on towards the end of last season and scored the memorable goal...

Pool has one newly signed central defender (1.3 million pound), the 17 yrs old Sepp van den Berg. He can also play on the left or right wings ....  [thumbsup]

Currently, he is training with the senior squad. Age wise, he is young but play like season player ...  :a-happy:

thats where the 1 point is lah ...........

ManC have a 60m pounds sub in Mahrez. iirc, he did score some important goals. But last season was a "God's will" imo. When Foden & Kompany scored the singular winning goals in 2 matches, you know its not coming home  ^_^

man city has won the title with 90+ points for the last 2 seasons. So whether it's destiny or what not, we have to get over 90+ points to have a shout.

We were quite lucky with injuries to our 1st team last year. With such a draining preseason (copa + african nations + the run to the CL finals), i feel that some breakdown or fatigue must be managed.

Mane and Salah both scored 20+, 10+ from bobby.

If one of these two get a 3 month long injury. Is Origi going to get us 10+ goals a season? I think he can. But that's at best bobby's output. Can brewster even manage half that output?

Maybe our captain in advanced role, can score a couple more.

Ox maybe if he's fit. And with a multi ligamentous injury to his knee, seriously his fitness will never be as good again (given that he's already quite a sicknote when he's so young).

GK, central defence is by far the best stocked dept (if mignolet is really rumored to stay again for another season).

we could have won - remember the how many mm under goal-line tech that the goal was not given? If that had gone in, we would have led 1-0, not guaranteed to win, but it would have been psychologically very uplifting for us, and City staring at 10-pt gap...

and then late on they benefited from another similar situation when they were adjudged to have scored, also with mm allowance only... If that had not gone in...

yup... last season we were lucky in many ways. Injury-wise was one of them.

When front 3 don't play or don't play well, indeed the back-up fare significantly worse. We need to get the back-up to either play the same way and have the same understanding at the trio, or the back-up must offer an alternative that will definitely get us the goals in some other style.

Now the AFCON there dunno got cheap and good bargains that are raw gems waiting to be polished or not. If yes, maybe can get 1-2 offensive players that can run v fast and also got potential to play Klopp style...

I hope we invest in 2 full backs or at least promote 2 youngsters up from the youth teams...

As for forward line, if we are not buying someone new, do rotate the forwards after a few games, would like Origi and Shaqiri getting more game time and let us have a good look at Brewster...

We do need a creative midfielder to replace Lallana (thanks but about time to say gd bye) but Keita and AOC can fill the role if they are fit.. else we can put a double pivot and play 4-2-3-1... Shaqiri is not bad as an central attacking midfielder... Firminho can certainly play his old role...

Turbocharged

exactly. when PC was around, he did score a few stunners from far out, like the way Gerrard used to score in his younger days. PC also could do direct free kicks, as well as bring the ball around and look for a good opening to make a killer pass.

None of the lot now, can do that.

When PC around.. pool no win title.. that says it all..

ha ha... sometimes it's luck and also depends on rest of the team also.

good as SG was during his peak, and even when there was carra, torres, alonso, mascherano, etc. making such a balanced team, it was still not meant to be [bigcry]

same when suarez was on fire, and it has to be SG - who wanted and deserved the title so badly - to slip and throw away the chance...

Carragher?? Thought that was why SG did not have the chance to lift the title, besides his own slip.

Carra was at least quite decent when he was younger. When he was deemed too old to be starting, the likes of Skrtel (horror show), Agger, (injury prone), etc. was not even as dependable as Carra was when younger.

For me, Carragher's main strength is his all-hearted approach.  He played best with a cool man player like Sami Hypia around to organise the defence.   Skrtel is abit like Carragher and can be abit reckless at times hence not good to pair the 2 together.

Agger is more comfy on the ball and could have become a real pool legend however his injury record is just too poor for CB.

Pool's main challenge for the CB area this season is to keep VVD fit for most games.  Both fullback areas need investment however not cheap hence Klopp may be keeping his powder dry at this point.  Utd just spent 50M on a young right fullback player who had 1 good breakout season.. this is the market rate.

Signed up 2 kids.. building for the future. Now 2 for the present

Liverpool have edged out Europe's elite in their bid to sign Fulham's record-breaking midfielder Harvey Elliott, sources have told ESPN FC.

Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig all had designs on securing the services of the 16-year-old, who became the youngest-ever Premier League player in May.

You must be talking about this youngster. Never heard of him before, but sounds like many big teams were interested in him...

Yup, Carra, like SG and Suarez, exhibited traits that will give the team more confidence when they play, by their sheer determination.

Hyppia and VVD gives the same, but in a different way - through their calm organising ability.

At a time when the central defence consists of (other than Agger and Skrtel) Coates, Wisdom, Kelly, Carra was the most dependable already.

The market is indeed mad, with every single half-decent player going for base price 50 m or above. Is this even sustainable???

Actually, apart from VVD, is it possible to influence and teach the likes of Matip, Gomez and Lovren, to be better at organisation and play more (note, not over-) confidently? These 3 did play quite well alongside VVD, so if they can pick up a thing or two from VVD, our defence could become a really good shield - given that TAA and Robertson are also doing well.

oh yah, that time defence was great! They were good, and also lucky. I remember Henchoz got 2 handballs not given penalty [laugh] , one of which was the dunno league or FA Cup final where we beat arsenal from 2 owen goals. It prompted Henry to plead to ah seng to get a 'fox in the box'... and they went to get a forgetable everton flop...

In fact, hyppia and henchoz were so good that carra was playing left back and babbel was playing right back... only after henchoz was sold, did carra become CB...
