13177 Supersonic August 19, 2019 Share August 19, 2019 (edited) Trick now is to refuse promotion, pay rise, etc. $12k is the sweet spot to max out ah gong subsidies $12k per household income think quite easy to exceed, esp looking at people high earning nowadays. Husband earns $8-9k and wife earns $6k-7k should be quite common now?! Or some even earn much higher? Edited August 19, 2019 by 13177

Tjkbeluga 5th Gear August 19, 2019 Share August 19, 2019 Some thoughts:- Pre-school subsidy: Now $12k considered low income. Just wondering do families earning $12k deserve taxpayers subsidies? Can we just help the truly low income? East Coast - looks like the sea view condos can say bye bye to sea view liao. Building of dykes out at sea and pumping out the water is a cheaper way to reclaim land as it does not require that much sand. It also means the shoreline will move a few km out. They are already using this way to build 2 toa payohs in Pulau Tekong. But may be necessary because the entire East Coast shore is artificial reclaimed land which is v low lying. So need to push out the shoreline in order not to jeopardise the lives of people. I think this may start quite soon, esp the part nearer to the city. But i think most Singaporeans not affected as most residents there (Meyer to Mandalay Gardens) are mostly NRI. Heng Ah! Great Southern Waterfront - this is the most excited part. Creating seafronting (and real natural shoreline with natural deep colour waters and not artificial reclaimed land) homes, offices and recreation places that is an extension of our city. This is almost a clean slate to build something special and iconic (The Googles, Netflix are already at Mapletree city and a real digital city can develop until the Punggol one). The condo developments at Keppel Bay are already special on their own - so I think this is going to be quite exciting. OKlaa at least they build lagoon style, still got a narrow strip of water, unlike punggol, at first has sea view, later new block pop up right infront. Icemaiden 6th Gear August 19, 2019 Share August 19, 2019 (edited) That would depend on what our government want to do with the reclaimed land. Secali they want to build more houses and roads in the future once the land "settled". Also the reclaimed islands is just one of the proposal and sub-optimal and costly (need to buy sand!). I think the preference may be to use the poulder and dyke method like Netherlands which saves a lot of sand and more economical, provided we can learn from the Netherlands, than reclamation of all these artificial islands, which I find awfully unsightly. Best is to extend out the shoreline elegantly than mess it up with fake islands filled with sand. Victor68 Turbocharged August 19, 2019 Share August 19, 2019 The government is finally taking a serious look into all the ponding issues in the past 5 years... and this I would not complain. Methodology and budget wise, I sincerely hope they spend the money wisely by getting real expert to conduct research and feasibility studies, before dumping our tax dollars into it. Not another million $$$ bin center for please... Unfortunately, who is evaluating these experts beside making reference to their past records? Don't forget not everything can simply be cut and paste. The thing i notice in Singapore, foreign talents they will accept no matter how nonsense but local talents they have plenty of doubts. Surely we do have locals smart enough to question and decide. Hope we spend our money wisely. Not too much heavy weight sitting on the fence weighing down on the project.
Didu Supercharged August 19, 2019 Share August 19, 2019 Still on the topic of threat from climate change: https://www.straitstimes.com/politics/major-engineering-works-under-consideration-to-tackle-threat "..PUB has planned for a second pump house at Marina Barrage, the dam enclosing the Marina Reservoir, he said. The existing pump house has seven pumps which help to pump water out of the reservoir and into the sea when it rains heavily during high tide. This protects the city from flooding, as the falling rain can then drain into the reservoir. "When sea levels rise, the pump house will not be enough. We will need to build a second pump house on the opposite end of the Barrage," Mr Lee said. He added that while engineering solutions are available, they will come at an estimated price tag of $100 billion or more." PM What kind of pumps are they planning to buy?? Regardless, folks, get ready to pay more taxes!!
