Mazda MX-30

From the outset, the development team behind the Mazda MX-30 wanted to create a car that would become a partner to its owner. It should beg to be driven daily, and every time customers get behind the wheel, their affection for it should grow and they should feel more and more themselves. Everything about the model, from the styling that breeds a sense of familiarity to the open-feeling cabin that sets the mind free, is uncompromisingly designed around the user.

Human Modern design concept pushes out the boundaries of Kodo design

The introduction of the all-new Mazda3 in 2019 marked the beginning of a new phase for Kodo design. Under the Car-as-Art ethos, Mazda is striving to further expand the design language's expressive range and raise the artistic quality of its designs. With the Mazda MX-30, while retaining the beautiful, handcrafted forms of Kodo as a base, the design team also explored an expressive direction more in touch with emerging new values and lifestyles. That process resulted in the design of MX-30. The Human Modern concept spurred a number of unprecedented approaches. The exterior is uncompromisingly simple to emphasize its beauty as a solid mass. The styling creates a friendly expression, and the cabin design, with its framed top and freestyle doors, embodies an image of lightness. The interior aims to give occupants a sense of being "enveloped in openness," with a floating console and unique materials designed to minimize environmental impact. The MX-30 embodies an expressive direction in car design that helps customers discover their natural selves through the process of living with the car.

A cabin interior that focuses the mind and feelings with fine craftsmanship and environmentally-friendly materials

The team created an open-feeling cabin interior and paid particular attention to the selecting the right materials and showing them in ways that bring out their best. Heritage Cork used in the console tray is designed to emphasize the texture and visual warmth of the material. The door trim features a fibrous material with a texture that seems to contain air, creating a material-based sense of openness within the cabin. Both of these materials are designed to be low-impact and sustainable. The door trim uses fibers made from recycled plastic bottles and the cork is harvested from the bark of trees without felling. The comfortable interior of the Mazda MX-30 is composed of such environmentally friendly materials.

A touch panel heater control is adopted for the first time in a Mazda car, making operation safe and intuitive. This 7-inch touch panel also welcomes drivers getting into the car with a graphic that changes along with the external environment, offering an interactive experience designed to bring people closer to their car. From materials through to functionality and from technology through to design, all elements work together to create a space that encourages mindfulness from the moment customers open the door, while driving, and right up until they exit the vehicle.

A driving experience of pure joy

Mazda wants people to enjoy driving in any situation, and that applies as much to EVs as to any kind of car. In order to realize a driving experience that makes you look forward to your daily commute, Mazda has relentlessly applied the human-centric philosophy in the development of new technologies such as Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. Now, with the Mazda MX-30, the company introduces a new electric drive technology called e-Skyactiv. To enhance the consistency of omnidirectional vehicle response to control inputs and realize seamless transitions between G forces, electric G-Vectoring Control Plus (e-GVC Plus) is also equipped. Natural feedback crafted to match human characteristics is afforded by precise torque control and sound that lets the driver know exactly what the car is doing. Combined with the model's smooth vehicle behavior, these factors result in the refinement of Mazda's renowned driving joy.

Advanced safety performance for enjoyment and peace of mind

Aiming for a future society free of car accidents, Mazda is continually working to advance safety performance under the Mazda Proactive Safety philosophy. The Mazda MX-30 strengthens the i-Activsense advanced safety technology suite with new functionality added to Smart Brake Support (SBS) aimed at helping to prevent collisions at intersections and technology designed to help keep drivers on track on roads with curbs or discernable edges, even in the absence of lane markings. And thanks to a body that is both strong and efficiently absorbs energy despite adopting freestyle doors with no center pillar, collision safety performance is excellent. Mazda's engineers incorporated the latest technologies and development concepts, including a carefully designed structure to protect the high-voltage battery, so that anybody can enjoy the responsive performance of the MX-30 with peace of mind.

A car that stimulates customers to use it in new and creative ways

Mazda aims to create a deeper bond between people and cars and make life with a car a richer and more rewarding experience. With the Mazda MX-30, the company hopes to offer not only a new choice for customers but new and life-enriching ways of using and spending time with your car. In addition to the above-mentioned values, the adoption of the freestyle doors not only enhances functionality but opens up a wide range of new and creative uses for the MX-30. Mazda hopes that, in addition to enjoying the drive, customers will use the car creatively and make it truly their own.

I dunno. When we look at an EV the most important thing that ppl look out for is range. I have read from other website the battery is rated at 35.5kWh with a single electric motor (Tesla 3: 80.5 kWh dual motor). Ppl estimate this Mazda's range to be approx. 130 miles (Tesla 3 approx. 250 miles). Dont expect performance to be fast.

I put Tesla 3 not as a comparison or a competitor but as a rough estimate of range. If the MX-30 selling point is that it's an EV...ok lah, it's better looking than the Nissan Leaf. It's practically a 2 seater since the RX-8 with similar doors market itself as a 2+2. A lifestyle EV that isnt as practical as a regular 4 door petrol powered compact SUV/crossover.

Mazda has began production of the all-new Mazda MX-30, its first all-electric vehicle, at its Ujina plant No. 1 in Hiroshima, Japan.

The MX-30 sports Mazda’s new electric drive technology – dubbed e-Skyactiv – utilises a 143bhp AC synchronous electric motor with a 35.5kWh lithium-ion battery. The powertrain delivers a driving range of approximately 200km on the WLTP combined cycle.

Designed to complement the smooth power delivery of an all-electric drivetrain, the MX-30’s Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture has been specifically tailored to offers customers a uniquely quiet, seamless driving experience.

The interior of the Mazda MX-30 features a driver-centric cockpit, a floating centre console, and Mazda’s first 7.0-inch touch-screen air-conditioning panel.

A range of new, environmentally friendly materials such as cork also feature in the cabin, while the door trim fabric uses fibres from recycled plastic bottles.

Standard interior equipment for U.K. cars includes a windscreen projecting head-up display, 8-way electric adjustable drivers’ seat, a colour 7-inch TFT dial display, a leather wrapped steering wheel and chrome trim accents.

The Mazda MX-30 First Edition also comes with Mazda Connect, navigation, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the technology tally also includes Mazda Radar Cruise control and a driver’s knee airbag.

Customers ordering an MX-30 First Edition in the U.K. will also qualify for a free wall box home charger.

The Mazda MX-30 is equipped with both a Type 2 mode 2 charge cable for 3-pin plug charging and a Type 2 mode 3 charge cable for AC charging .

Additionally, the DC socket allows for rapid charging at up to 50kW. DC charging will bring the battery up to an 80% state-of-charge within 30 to 40 minutes.

Time to speed up the infra structure.

What good is a EV when there is fear of getting stuck with a flat out batteries in a middle of nowhere..

Very hard for me to associate these 2 technology coming together: Rotary engine & PHEV. The former is a well known oil burner, while the later is about better energy efficiency. In layman term, it is a kin to Fire & Ice... BUT the current MX-30 EV is quite a joke with just 160Km range!

Mazda MX-30 PHEV With Rotary Engine To Debut By March 2023

2022-mazda-mx-30-exterior-review.jpg

After a few false starts, Mazda’s rotary range-extending engine is finally heading to production. The company confirmed that the well-known engine would find its way into the MX-30 plug-in hybrid crossover that will debut in the second half of Mazda’s current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2023.

It was over a year ago that Mazda confirmed that the rotary range extender would power a hybrid version of the MX-30. However, six months after that announcement in July 2021, a Mazda spokesperson revealed that the company was still considering using the rotary engine as a range extender. The revelation all but quashed hopes that we’d see the model debut in the first half of 2022.

According to Automotive News, the rotary range extender won’t directly drive the wheels. Instead, it will recharge the crossovers battery, which will power the electric motor. Mazda only offers the MX-30 in the US as an all-electric vehicle, though the platform can accommodate a range of powertrains. One of its drawbacks has been its limited range, a measly 100 miles (161 kilometers), says the US EPA. Sales for the new EV have been abysmal compared to other electric crossovers on sale today, though it’s only on sale in California.

Mazda doing quite a few weird things recently, I really worry for them because these are the results of internal decisions made at least 5 years ago which now appear to be totally mis-align to the market trend. They are a very small company so wrong bets will eat up most of their limited resources.

@Acegab Yes I understand it might be a problem for most people in Singapore right now. It did put me off initially but after looking at my lifestyle and what I need, it works for me.

I have access to home charging and only drive 20-50km per day.

If we buy a 2 seater sports car, we don't complain that it only sits 2?

Someone buying a large SUV don't complain about fuel economy right?

If we look at the target market for the mx-30 , urban city drivers, the range is more than enough for normal use ( 150-180km range) Especially if there is access to charging infrastructure.  I have no need for large battery range that increases the cost of the car and also the charging times.

Some people will say this is not a practical car and not value for money, the way I see it, sometimes we buy cars not for it's practicality or value but more of a emotional view point.

Then your point in asking people here to share their feedback on this car is quite moot. As you said, you like it you buy it.

@Acegab Firstly, in my first post, all I wanted to know is if there are any current owners of this car so we can get in touch to share our experience and feedbacks of this car.

If you are not an owner of this car, your feedback really holds not much weight as clearly this car does not work for you.

You have your own opinion of this car and I respect it.  It works for me and I absolutely have no problem with the range and cost of it.

For you to thrash talk and put down this car and my choice of car is just a joke.
