En0203 2nd Gear April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 You will not be surprised as Toyota has already sign an agreement with china government that they will be manufacturing their engine for all capacity in their china plant to supply to all parts of the world. So next time you get a Toyota, you are getting a CHINA MADE car inclusive of the engine. Even currently, most of their engine parts like piston and cylinders are made in Taiwan. ya ar? then hopefully we can have cheaper toyota than thai made one soon
Kelpie 2nd Gear April 26, 2004 Share April 26, 2004 That is why Korean cars take out most air-bag and ABS etc so that the selling price will kept low and will attract those buyers who are budget concern but yet enjoy some of the good features. Their same range of cars in european countries like the Kia Cerato which will be launching in singapore soon will be available in Korea in 2.0 Diesel engine and 2.0 litre VVTI engine in european countries so in singapore only available as 1.6 engine. 1. Whether the need for airbig is real or not, it should remain as a basic feature. This is one thing I don't quite like about some Korean Cars. If they're able to produce low cost car efficiently, adding at least two airbags will not kill their sales. 2. Yap, in some countries, 2.0L is taken as an entry level cc car. They will expect you to change your car every 3 years just like the electronics, they are not made to last but only for a few years compared to the older days like my Sony TV, can last up to 10 years without spoilt. So if you can imagine that you buy a Jap brand car like Toyota but all parts inclusive the engine are all made in China then I will say "Thank You", I will not so stupid to buy, I rather get back the Korean cars! Genie47 1st Gear April 27, 2004 Share April 27, 2004 (edited) Nope! This variable valve timing thing came out long ago. I believe Alfa Romeo and BMW came out with it. But Honda purrfected it to their VTEC. Seamless and continuous. So it is technology from the Conti car makers. If I can recall, the technology is around for 40yrs. Ford researched and had an engine that looked into the VVT system. VTEC is the evolution of the VVT system craps all over it. VVTL-i is the equivalent to VTEC. Gendut 2nd Gear April 27, 2004 Share April 27, 2004 <<<>> I thought Korean cars are ape-ing Continental cars. But why remove important safety gadgets in place of some plastic glass holder and such. Doesn't sound like European thinking at all to me?

Zombie Neutral Newbie April 27, 2004 Share April 27, 2004 maybe the new batch is already from Thailand. But if from Thailand, dun understand why it still command such a price? 71 - 73K??? In any case, I came to know that Jazz will be produced in Thailand somewhere last year also, after I got my car. Then there is someone who post the engine no or chassis no starts with certain alphabet, it is from Japan, else it is not... so I am convinced mine is from Japan.... Anyway, it's ok.... think a lot of manufacturers are switching out of high cost country into countries where labour costs are generally cheaper... you can't blame them, cost is the bottomline to these pple. Soon, cars from Korea will become a luxury cars.... most Korean brand electronics are not from Korea anymore..... Also heard that BMWs and Merc are not from Germany also.... Maybe 1 day, you would be paying 150K for a Made in Japan Lancer, and 80K for a made in Indonesia E200. Why not????
