Hmmmm.... dunno if I can answer your question but ... i know when I buy insurance for my car I look out for ...

1. can cover go malaysia and until which part of malaysia? Thailand??

2. excess? diff car diff excess, those high powered models, high risk machines will have very high excess, eg WRX, EVO, GTti, Civics, Ceilica, 2dr cars, big motorbikes

3. NCD or NCB (no claim bonus/discount), make sure carry forward if last car was sold or scrapped.

4. Loyalty rebate (For NTUC, when I bought an used car last yr, NTUC insurance gave 5% rebate due to I have a life policy with them - kinda surprise too)

5. Does it cover any other people or new drivers like my young brother.. :)

NTUC and AIG states new drivers or ppl not listed inside in insurance carries different excess (anyone can enlighten me on this .... ??)

6. How much will the insurance be after every single year. As you grow older, driving will improve, matured and can think better? (hmmm... ??) NTUC so far has quite a huge step from age group to another age group. The older u r, the cheaper the insurance but if exceed 55, premium increased

7.I will pay a little more to extend the coverage to make sure the insurance expire together with the rd tax to make life easier for me in future.

If u drive a high powered car, maybe u consider NTUC quality plan, cheaper and cover 1st party liability. If comprehensive premium differs not much from quality plan, then insist on comprehensive anytime.

Shagmobil, excellent round up of the |what you might need to know" of car insurance.

Personally, for me, I just look at the price (can sense Nilkz also same) and I just get the cheapest quote.... I guess you will never bother until you get into trouble in an accident etc (touch wood) then all the fine prints of the insurance start to become the highlights of the policy whilst the former highlights - policy premium no longer matters much compared to the damage.... dun be penny wise pound foolish.

Thanks Shagmobil for shedding some light,

will definitely consider those points that you have raised, by the way, i am driving the toyota corolla, 1.5 manual,

so are you covered by NTUC, think they have become like the biggest vehicle insurance underwriter in spore, problem is that i heard that when you buy comprehensive from NTUC, they are rather strict when you are making claims,

but seen in the light of recent events like the whole motor industry insurance premiums going up cos of the extent / amount of claims made, genuine or otherwise, think all the insurers will be careful when assessing claims

maybe more relevant will be which of these insurance companies have the widest network of authorised workshops and whether these shops are any good ...

thanks

True. :)

China insurance quoted me $1400 w/o NCB just because my car was a Honda with VTEC. :( Previously when I bought the insurance with the car on its 1st year was only $850.

I have just become "non insurable" by AIG.

Got 3 minor accidents in 1 year. Just become non-P-Plate

What insurance do you recommend? NTUC?

III has the LARGEST network of workshops - total 94 approved workshops. Good or not I dun know.
