Dear all,

My car presently is fitted with original 14" Honda alloy sport rims. The pickup is excellent, however the 185/60/R60 tends to be abit bouncy at high speed cornering and overtaking.

My choices of upgrading to 15" is not acceptable as 1" diff. is not value for $$$. About 16", I will lose pickup and increase fuel consumption. So my alternative is to broaden my tyres and lower my profile such as 195/55/R14 (comfirm have but what the price???), and 195/50/R14 (dun know still exist or not?).

I need expert advice on cost and performance. Thanks in advance. [rolleyes]

There are no many choices of tyres for the R14 size you quoted....

Just go for 16", the loss in pickup is not very obvious. smile.gif

if you lower or change your profile but stay at 14" ... your speedometer will not be accurate anymore ...

also when you broaden your tyres FC will go up. unless you get a super light rims in the region of 3-4 kg per rim. in the resource folder there is a tyre calculator to upgrade to correct profile , so that your speedometer stay correct.

bouncy at cornering , maybe you should consider changing to sport suspension. which will reduce the bouncy but you will get a harder ride . also some strut bar will stiffen up the chassis to reduce flex.

Thanks ya... your advice came in timely... The weight of my 14" rim is generally lighter than a 15"rim regardless of maker rite?? So perhaps I will still keep my rims. Do you think having a accurate speedo meter is impt? The max. error could be juz +/- 5km/h. What I insist is actually juz to lower my current profile from 60 to maybe 55/50. [rolleyes]

This ideal for your current tire size will be:

1. 195/55 R14

2. 205/55 R14 -- rare

As for 195/50 R14, it will differ too much from your actual size and it will cause an inaccurate reading of extra 5 kmh at 100kmh.

If you insist on staying 14inch, i think 195/55 R14 is the only available size for you.

But if you go to 15 inch, you can 195/50 R15.

There are some after market rims which are light and will not affect fuel consumption much.

... there are 15' that are even lighter then OEM 14' alloy rims ... cast alumium : enkei RPF1 4.5 kg .. forged aluminium : racing HART CP-05 3.7kg . most OEM alloys weight about at least 5-6 kg ...

actually, by lowering the profile of the tyres won't improve much on the bouncy issues on high speed cornering & overtaking, you need to lower your ride with after market suspension, be it coilovers or Springs & Shocks combi, this will improve the handling much more than you current stock setup wink.gifwink.gifwink.gif

sorry, may I ask what honda you driving?

I drive a fit on stock 14 inches rim..experience the bouncy feel as you mentioned...

my friend also on a fit but just changed to 15" 2 days ago, i drove his car, the feel is completely different...the bouncy feel is gone now and the car defintely felt a lot more stable...amost nil body roll!

I am planning to change to 15" rims, it is worth the investment!

14" rims may not necessary be lighter than 15" rim...if you really looking into stable ride yet does not compromise in pickup, you will need to invest more on those performance sports rim, the high end stuff!

even my 14 " with front upper strut does not feel as good as my friend's on 15"...

fuel efficiency, performance and stability..u need to decide for yourself what you need most...

Hiyee... you sound serious,haha!! [sly]

Okei... my ride is a Gen 2 City Vtec. Basically, the bouncy feeling is coz by the extra air in our higher profile tyres. For example, mine is 185/60/R14, as such the profile is 60 and tyre broadness is 185. Usually a 15"rim come with 195/50/R15. Thus by changing our 14" spec to 195/55or50/R14, we will likely to get the same for a 15" rim and safe $$$. Unless I am on a 13" rim, or I will only consider the 16". [thumbsup]
