Try New Luck at Eunos ... look for Ah Luck ... service very good ... can also recommend recon one if you are on a tight budget ... but will not last as long.sweatdrop.gif

yea......just dropped by at pro serv and asked the mechanic to take a look.....he said the compressor is abt to give way and quoted me $480 for a recon and $580 for a new original...

considering wat happened the last time i went to them for a repair, i decided to look ard first........

normally how long does a re-con one cost? and re-con = reconditioned?

Yes recon is reconditioned or used and then refurbished.

I believe Mark Cool can get you another for 300 depending on the model and make of your car.

$480 recon vs $580 new one. This one's a no brainer leh.

If I were you, pump up $100 and get a new one for the peace of mind. [:p]

BTW, how does a layman like me check and see if the compressor's going to give way? Open up and visual check?

If you want to take risk for a recon unit, might as well go to the scrap yard and look for one.

Give the junk yards a try .

I once got an alternator for $15/- and it was working fine .

So maybe a compressor would cost u less than $50/- .

Plus if you install it DIY , one afternoon if you want to take it slow and careful .

Why not ?

Good learning process.

If you have bought the right one ( from same make of car ), it is not difficult to install and to reconnect all those pipings. After that then send to a/con shop to refill the gas to check for leakage. It wont cost a lot.

i got a mechanic at pro serv to check.......at the beginning, it's more of an audio check....grinding noise w/o air con on....and wif air con on, it just goes ballistic...... [thumbsup]

thnks for all the help given.....finally decided to go to New Luck at Eunos and got a recon one for $300, $580 is way out of my budget, student pockets are not deep [:)]

and ive learnt that silence is golden [thumbsup]

just need it to last another 2 to 3 yrs before the car goes scrap.....so hopefully it will last....got my fingers crossed..... [sweatdrop][sweatdrop]

thnks again to all the bros for your help

i agree with bros luckcent & worker. me went to a scrapyard around woodlands area & got a compressor for just $80. if not wking, can return back somemore. look for those of same model. urs civic, quite popular, so shd not have a prob. i spent another $100 getting it installed. so overall damage less than $200. aircon now running well for past few mths.

yea, guy at the workshop mentioned abt $200 for a compressor from the scrapyard + installation.....but not much time to go down to the scrapyard and ride was starting to get affected already, so i chose the re-con option......

hopefully there wont be a next time, but if there is i might consider that option....thnks for the info [:)]

I had my re-con compressor changed at mark-cool abt 2 yrs puls & it's still fine. Cost abt $200 incl labour. Had my alternator changed together for less than $100 incl labour.

Place is good & reasonable. Using them for more than 5 years now. No complaints.
