I just did DIY oil change

Like Tcl099 has said the drain plug is easily accessible w/o jacking up the car.

It faces towards the rear and needs a 19mm socket or 3/4" to loosen. Now the word is to loosen. I spent a great deal of time and effort loosening. Those SA mechs could be bulls in real life. Strong but very little brains. I am taught for oil change you finger tighten the drain nut only.

The oil gushed out when I removed the plug. I waited two hours for the engine to cool down to warm status. Actually until the exhaust pipe is easy to touch. I got burned bad when I enthusiastically started on it right away.

Now the drain plug is facing towards the rear of the car. The plug has a number 8 on it and has a washer. I took care not to lose especially the washer.

Now the oil is still draining (into a cheap tupperware container). I have those big metal tin for gasoline which I intend to store the used oil until disposal. I don't mind paying for disposal. $5-10 should be good because you cannot get a $10 labor charge for oil change. unimpressed.gif

What is going inside? Conoco Hydroclear Super All Season 5W30.

BTW I called up SA to fix an appointment for the 20k which they say is fully booked. So I scheduled one for Mon. They want me to be there early at 8am so that they can started on the A/C dryer issue mad.gif. With my DIY oil change, I guess they will have less to do but just inspect the the nuts and bolts are tight and in order.

I suppose it's easy when you have access to the car jack/lift which can raise the car while one can walk under and fiddle.

But to do a back crawl under ...... I'd pay the $20 bucks labour to have the oil changed. [:p]

Hi

These washers are very cheap thing but just to

make sure that they dont soften at high Temp, get

the orginal Engine Oil Drain Plug Washer.

I wont DIY oil myself cos I have changed engine oil

for numerous times during my army days..

Hand oily, shirt oily, head giggy, hand itchy..

Haha.. Fun and save $ but .. It all depends on individual.

Hi

So the matter of fact is that Can we go for 20k

w/o SA changing engine oil?

Just let them change Dryer and misc checking will do..

IS that possible??

The requirement to go for the 20k is to replace the A/C dryer. They cannot turn around and void it. Your engine oil is clean that is a good thing.

I didn't use a jack or a lift. This car's drain plug is very easily accessible w/o the use of any lifting equipment. Also being a little thin helps. This will not be possible if lowering springs are installed.

as long as the air con is cold and function well what the point change the dryer it cost a bomb u know u ask around with the air con man they will tell u dont need to change ,

after the 20k just drama and go back to continue the next normal servicing just to continue the warranty period / [dizzy]

Hi

So after minus the Oil change, Air filter change and

spark plug change, how much will it roughly cost for 20K.

Really can work anot?

If can then I will change Engine oil outside and send in

for A/C dryer change only for 20k svc.

These washers are called crush washers. There are many types, aluminium, copper or rubber types. Would like to know where to buy. Only getting US sources from BITOG.

The one I'm seeing now looks like copper. I will flip it to present a new sealing surface.

That means it may not be compulsory for the A/C dryer change?

I am confused..

Dryer is compulsory for maintaining of warranty or

optional?
