Will a power amp or active sub-woofer improve my sound?

I have changed my rear speakers in my Aveo to 6" JBL and 4" JBL in the front. I changed the head unit to the latest Pioneer MP3/WMA. The sound now is worst then my previous non mp3 HU. I have to turn-up the volume to about 22 before I can really enjoy music.

 

One dealer reccommended me a power amp, then later he said a Bosch active sub-woofer will suffice. He quoted me $450/- for either.

 

I don't know if my HU has preamp out, but what will your reccomendations be? I dont want to spend more than $500/-

 

BTW can HU claims 50 watts mosfet

If you have upgraded to higher power rating speakers, they will definitely be softer now that more power is required to drive them to the same volume levels as before. But, staging, imaging and clarity should be improved. Loss of bass is quite often the case.

 

Yes, an active sub would do you good. Or, you can alternatively get a 50W RMS amplifier (small one, should be cheap), bridge it into mono, make sure it has a low pass filter, and tap the signals off the rear speakers. Use the amp to drive a subwoofer (or tube, classified ads have lots of people selling these for cheap) and you'll get a very decent sounding set up. A bridged 50W amp can push about 200W in mono, depending on the impedance of your speakers.

 

Mosfets can push 50W, maybe for 0.000001sec. Those figures are more like peak power handling and not real constant power. You'll be lucky to get maybe 7-10W per channel. Why do you think 50W RMS x 2 amplifiers are si much bigger? [;)]

Try to swap your front & rear speakers 1st for a change, the sub can come in later. With your current setup i think no point putting in a sub. The problem is with the tiny front speakers.

Can u advice me too?

 

I had just install the following ICE and wld like to seek experts' opinion in tuning Time Correction and Bass-focus. I am using my Stock HU (Alpine CDA-W560E series)

 

1) Front speaker; Focal Polyglass 165V2 6 inches component speakers that comes with tweeters and crossover but dunno what model.

 

2) Placed under the small tables in between driver and front passenger's seat; Bazooka 6100 6 inches Active woofer

 

My preference for music includes 80s pop and Linkin' Park's kind. Occassionally also Leslie Cheung and Jackie Cheung.

 

My next move is to add an Amp; what model to go with my above mentioned Speaker and woofer?

 

Hope someone can advice from here.....

try to swap your 6" to front, is it a component with tweeters? your pioneer if it is latest one sure got preamp out, btw your HU is only 22W RMS output
