Brother Jansen,

I feel likewise. I own an Optra5 1.6Auto.

So far no problems with Optra5 (touch wood). I have been scanning the posts just in case anything pops up. So far so good; none of the indicated fuel gauge problems, tire alignment etc. Or isit I just to 'kayu' to notice [confused]

Anyway, I was thinking to start a thread like this for sometime. Keen to get acquainted with other Optra5 owners out there [thumbsup]

Hi all, i'm new in this forum. Actually i'm considering whether to get a OPTRA5 but need to check with ya all what are the pros and cons of this car.

ALso, i'm concerned about the high FC which i read in this forum too. Can you please advise your optra5 FC as well?

I planned to drive this car for 10 years, do you think that it will last that long?

Appreciate all the advice given......

Thanks!

Daniel

Have faith. It will last 10 yrs. Its whether you can last 10 years. [laugh]

The entire 1.6 line in chevy, engine the same couple with a hefty weight, you must be able to take a 8 to 12 km/l range depend on your driving style and road environment you put the car thru, there is no fair guage in term of fc really.

But I say, just sign the paper [laugh][flowerface]

Hi IMC10 and Jansen,

It's encouraging to hear that there are no problems!

However, I have a minor problem although an irritating one, and that is a creaking sound coming from the boot whenever my Optra5 goes over some uneven road. What do you think this could be due to?

Thanks!

Brother Chevee5,

I believe the creaking comes from the rubbing of the leather seats. I have a bit of these sounds also. I have performed numerous experiments with by friedns, you know they sit behind while I drive just to listen intently and we have concluded it is the leather surface. Anything accessible that can be tightend or knocked in has been done so.

It is slightly annoying sometimes but I take comfort that as the leather ages and loses some elasticity, the sound should gradually fade. Then again by then something else should be creaking already from age... hehe tongue.gif

Brother Biker,

I did alot of research on the net prior to making the decision to buy my Optra5. It is really value-for-money or bang-for-buck as others may say. At that price they are throwing in independant Mcpherson struts, disc brakes on all wheels and traction control etc. The styling is beautiful and the car take-up still is rather low hence it is rare on the road. People will look, some will drool (hopefully babes) wink.gif

Anyway, you will not be disadvantaged in any way except if you are a die-hard modder and are seeking special accessories or mods for the Optra5. Because it is not so common, expect that accessories and mods, tunig packages etc. will not be so commonly available also. This is the only drawback I have experienced so far. Maybe could even be an advantage because it will save you $$$ laugh.gif

See following link: http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/articles/F_honda_20041225_001.html. ://http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/arti...1225_001.html. ://http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/arti...1225_001.html. ://http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/arti...1225_001.html. It was considered for car of the year for 2004.

At it's price I think it is good value. Trust other Optra5 owners will agree.

The true test is 4-5 years from now. As the Optra5 is rather new still we have yet to see it proven as a design. Only time will tell if it is truly robust and maintainable (economically that is). In this respect I am banging on Chevrolet's brand name as my assurance.

The agent who sold me my Optra5 has become a friend. She has shared that General Motors will be coming in in a bigger way over the next few years. I hope GM will take more ownership in the branding and after market service from StarsAuto in the longer term which should be better for Chevy Owners around thumbsup.gif

This is just great.

This is the first time I have seen so many Optra5 owners. Maybe we can organise a get-together soon and share our experience, tips or mods on our Optra5's nod.gif

I don drive the Optra5 so Im in no position to tell you buy or don buy. I did test drive it though, end up buying the Latio Sport which was almost 10k more. All im trying to say is, test drive the cars first, u gotta feel it. Must connect with the car , don end up buying a car and complain abt it for the next few yrs. And of course, if price and value is more top priority, then consider the pricing [:)]

I think the basic design of the Optra Sedan, Optra 5 and Optra Estate are essentially the same.

Same engine layout etc.. (From what I see during my few visits to showrooms when I go for servicing)

Only overall length difference, and the rear boot size, and the 5-th door difference.

Interior is of course cosmetic difference. Colour, shape of aircon vents, etc.. But gears, steering, meters , all the same leh.

Exterior designed by 2 different companies.

I am guessing undercarriage and suspension should be the same. Though even if there are slight differences, I can't tell by squatting down at the showroom.. haha..

Hi imc10,

Thanks for that encouraging reply. I agree that the leather does make such noise. Funny thing to highlight. Today I drove thru heavy rain along the PIE and there wasn't any creaking sound, just the rumbling of the tyres. Could the creaking or cracking sound come from outside my car?

Hi IMC

Glad to know you also have an OPTRA 5.... [thumbsup]

Ya, once we gather enough of hatchbackies, we can organise some sort of gathering... [thumbsup]

Cheers!

"It's like that"... hehe laugh.gif or fear of sounding like SA technicians sometimes we have to accept that there are creaking sounds in most cars. My cousin drives as Saab, another cousin drives a Lexus, my uncle drives Merc and all have always mentioned some creaking noise somewhere. I guess we are all paranoid to some extent on noises.

It could be something we put in the boot, some loose bolt in the door, some loose fittings etc. If you are really on, try to diagnose first by removing certain stuffs then putting them back, lightly knocking stuffs into place etc. No surefire answer really. The trick I guess is being able to diagnose and separate the "always inherent" creaking noises to those that are genuinely problems.

When we go for servicing we can highlight to the technicians and see if they might know what to fix if the complains are common enough. I did actually highlight in my 1000k servicing about my noises coming from the back and the technician similarly explained it as rubbing leather "duh" tongue.gif

Anyway, hope you find the source of your creaking smile.gif

So brother Deathsythe, you made any decision yet on the Optra5?

We are all keen for another Optra5 owner to join us wave.gif

I was just reading this other post on the IntegraSG group (see: http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/Count_the_...P924066/#924066).

I am thinking we could also organise ourselves into an Optra5SG or something similar when we have identified enough similar minded Owners. Probably can become a sub-group of this MyCarForums or the TeamChevySG forum.

A group pic like that above for Optra5's in Singapore maybe interesting wink.gif
