Very new here. Can anyone recommend a HU, front and back speakers. My budget is about $700 and I do not mind export set. Thanks in advance!

Forget about the rear speaker, just concentrate on the front and the HU. May I know the present set-up in your ride now?

For starters, infinity component (reference or kappa) would be nice. I think Kappa quite ex, as in about S$400. Reference cheaper, last time I asked $280. Or you could try CDT CL61. Think about S$300.

In case you don't know, try as much as possible to get component speakers and not the cheaper co-axial ones. The sound quality much much better.

Something to read about!!!

[nod] , agree with Lionheart, 2nd hand stuff can be really good if you are resourceful and have the patience to wait...

Don't listen to crap stories or marketing tactics from those what have you shops out there where money is only their greatest concern...

Sounds familar...... [sleeping] Anyway, didn't you went to any of our meet-up from SkC? Best you meet-up and hear things out.

So unless you want to burst like a mobile disco, no need sub. Got Infinity (~300) if you want bass, CDT (~350) for clarity. Then get either a Sony HU or a Pioneer one should be fine (~300).

Head unit actually depends on you, do really need to change as our JVC HU is actually consider still OK. Forget the rear.

Before we start building up things in our car, we address the most basic fundementals in ICE, which will most probably kill all your expensive setup...your sound proofing...believe not in cheap sound proofing because you will only waste all your money...invest in good quality proofing and you willl find the rest of the setup coming in place much easier [:)]

I have heard prices that ranges from as cheap as $50 to the more deliberate ones like $150 and above...They will show you photos of how it is done and sell it to you that it is premium quality blah blah blah...Best is to pop by the installer(s) place and see for yourself. Some can finish in 2 hours for four doors while some take 1 whole day to finish up 2 doors, and that does not include installing the speakers back.. I certainly go for the more elaborate ones because I am the experience of being blinded by their sweet tongue. [:)]

I am actually answering the question posted. He said "HU, front and rear", so I just take away the rear ones since it is usually the last thing people touch especially for the budget minded.

Remember that sound proofing give you tighter/compact bass. It isn't the usual bass you would get from sub-woofers. Reason would be that your front component (I hope your's is a component set in front) only seperate the mid/low bass from the higher frequency sound, which is for the tweeters. Sub will only drive the low bass.

I am still in the mist of finding out what changing of HU will improve to my present system. Prehaps more power to drive my speakers (since I am not using amps), or clearer signals that reduces noise and give a clearer pitch. So I can only say I read about many saying HU really makes a different. But you have to invest for the difference to be felt.

1 last note: Original CD gives a stronger bass than those copied ones or converted from MP3s. So you might want to just play orginal CDs for the additional effect.

hmm.. i guess you guys have to take into consideration about the overall budget of the setup. Soundproofing must not the bulk of the budget.

E.g. a yoyo that i know spent nearly to 1.4k (4 doors + firewall etc) for sound-proofing but his system cost $1.3k (HU + Speakers + amp).

In the ned, the system bombed... so please stay relative in terms of the engagments in sound-proofing activities.

Since Mr "yoyo" sound proofed his firewall, most likely his sound proofing isn't solely for ICE enhancement. Quite a bit of people actually sound proof their car in hope of a quieter cabin. 1 of the toughest place would be the firewall, but I have heard many commented about its effective-ness.

Thanks! i'm really on budget..... juz improve some bass and louder sound from front the speakers. [nod] Rear passengers complain too loud if i up the volume. The stock front speakers are very weak compared with the rears. [bigcry][bigcry][bigcry]

True.

The Yo-yo illustration is just to explain the importance of NOT focusing too much on Sound-Proofing. The quality of ICE still stay presidence over anything as the system will provide the entertainment not the silence
