err... curious...

24 jun - took delivery of car

26 jun - today, time of this writing

30 jun - pass driving test, 4 days from the time of this writing

if i remember correctly, since 30 jun is 4 days after today, it is FUTURE... you already know you will pass your driving test?!

hahahaha just kidding lah, knew you type the month wrongly wink.gif

let me share my experience...

many years back, i passed my driving test on the very first attempt and after only 15hrs of learning....

not only did i doubt myself, none of my relatives (parents especially) think i could drive safely enough. i ended up having a driver beside me whenever i drive....

that went on for few months until 1 day i decided enough is enough. if the tester trust me enough to pass me, i should be good enough to handle a car reasonably well. so i went out late one night and drove by myself... nothing happen and i came home safe. that's where i got my confidence and the rest are history wink.gif

on the road, just stick to your lane and ignore those impatient driver behind you (so long you are not on the right most lane). if they really in hurry, they can always overtake you. thumbsup.gif

hi all,

thanks for all the advise and encouragement. i got my autocar license(Pioneer batch)on 30th May. i found myself clumsy on learning manual car and decided to learn auto instead when a instructor say that i hv legs like elephant(clumsy)on my second lesson. [:/]

i drove the car by myself on the collection day. it was pretty unnerving. should hv gotten someone next to me when i drove the first time. [dead]

well at the moment i am always on the slowest lane. love to hide behind the slow vehicles

[sweatdrop] .

so much to the extreme left that i have to exit the highway... oops [blush]

guess go to remind myself safety comes first. [thumbsup]

is going at 70km/h on the expressway too slow on the left lane ??? [confused]

hehehe... kool... [thumbsup]

When I 1st collect my ride, I wasn't even sure that i could make it OUT of the show room... [:p]

When on the road, I wasn't even SURE of where I was suppose to go (I had to go home somehow... [sweatdrop] )

Once I reach my house carpark, I wasn't confident of reverse parking WITHOUT those 4 poles... [dizzy]

And now... 1yr later, I could do all those and more... [sly]

Hi there, always remember that drive at a speed that you are comfort wit, never speed, it ok to travel slow and be caution. Most importance KNOW YOUR LiMIT, and you will get use to it very soon. No one born with the knowledge of driveing!!!! CHEERSSSSS

And one more thing... Do note that there is a difference between driving CAUTIOUSLY and driving like a SNAIL... First one everybody will praise u while the second one, everybody will kill u... [lipsrsealed]

Like wat chevy said... Drive with caution and at a speed ur comfy with... And basic rule... Adhere to speed limit and you won't go wrong... [thumbsup]

Firstly ! Congrats !

No reason to be afraid on the roads. As you go along your confidence level will build up. You'll also realise that things is not like on the books. You'll meet morons and top notch considerate drivers on the road.

I think being a driver is about your mentality. You have 2 choices. 1 is being fast and furious and being a total d*ckhead not displaying courtesy at all on the roads. That will ruin your day big time. [rolleyes]

2 is to be considerate, display courtesy and of coz oblige the law. I don't know about you guys but each time I display courtesy I feel good about myself. [nod]

Enjoy your new ride. [thumbsup]

Haha yes the bad thing about learining about parking is that they give u those 4 poles. Sure with the poles they are easy but when i first got my license and went home to park my car...I was thinking "oh sxxt, where's the poles" I had to try like 2 mins just to reverse park a car...

I think they should change the syllabus to not use the poles for parking so u can be more confident on public carparks.

yeah ... I didn't take my licence in Singapore. The way we learn things was to drive on the roads straight away with real situations. Driving in circuits with other trainees is like ..... [rolleyes]

Saw some rookies trying park with poles so I'm wondering. We look at the poles to judge the proximity between the "wall" and the car. The thing is without the pole, we'll have to change from a common practice of looking at eye level for poles to looking downwards for the kerb or markings.

And I must say looking at kerbs are much harder than poles. Those parkings with a pillar either side usually requires the 1st attempt for me. Those without pillars with kerbs or markings usually require 2nd attempt not because it doesn't fit, but more of to straighten and give others some spacing.

I second that. when i just got my license a couple months ago, i found it hard to NOT knock into the car beside me. And i always prayed for 3 empty parking lots side by side so i can park in the middle. Yes, it seems ridiculous. But, now after using the side mirrors effectively i find it easier to park WITH cars beside me. It just takes practise.

My advice is u can go around ,orchard or shenton way or

anywhere u can think of to practise during midnite to

build up more confidence in your driving.. [cool]

but on another perspective, its better to experience the pressure on the road such as traffic jams, heavy rain, etc then you can improve. Bottom line is, you must learn not to panic. Don't drive a car with a mindset that you think you're going to get into an accident. Best yet, is to get a qualified driver to sit with you.
