Ah_bon Neutral Newbie July 20, 2006 Share July 20, 2006 you'll get a rotary not a DA. HAve to be careful.... There are such an adaptor for pads use in the market. Remember seeing it in a US website. not sure if it's available in Singapore though.
Mercuri Neutral Newbie July 20, 2006 Share July 20, 2006 err.. wouldn't that become a rotary? as the name suggest, Dual action refers to Oscillation and rotation. then again...normal drill has high rpm which i believed normal rotary polisher operates in the 2-3k rpm range. so i guess your movement has to be fast else may damage your paintwork. my 2 cents... Skip Neutral Newbie July 21, 2006 Share July 21, 2006 (edited) You can get the Bosch (or is it B&D?) backing plates at HomeFix DIY. There are 2 different types, the black rubber type which comes with the wool bonnet tie-on, and the velcro type which allows you to use the foam polishing pads. IMO the velcro backing plates are a better buy as it gives you more flexibility in the choice of pads. As for the pads you can either get from Hypercoat or Gen2. Hope this helps. Please note, like what the other bros have mentioned, you will be getting a rotary not a DA. Edited July 21, 2006 by Skip
Biccat Neutral Newbie July 21, 2006 Share July 21, 2006 For the pads, I would strongly recommend those carried by Gen2. The backing velco pads from Hypercoat doesn't go all the way to the outside diameter of foam pad. Many ppl have experienced with the foam pads being cut. Gen2's new pads have the velco pads extending all the way out and the pads feel smoother. I would have bought them straight away if I hadn't purchased from Hypercoat just this week. Weiming 1st Gear July 21, 2006 Share July 21, 2006 Even if your drill can vary the RPM, it will still act as a rotary as it spins on its axis. A DA not only spins but also oscillates along the axis. It is akin to your hand rotating about your wrist and simultaneously moving in a circular motion with the fulcrum at your elbow.

Biccat Neutral Newbie July 21, 2006 Share July 21, 2006 Should be around $25 or less each axcept for the finishing pad which costs a little more, I can't remember the exact number. You can check with him directly.
Zeefauna Neutral Newbie July 21, 2006 Share July 21, 2006 I think... you've got to be very careful handling the drill-turned-to-rotary machine. The design of a drill may make you feel awkward polishing the horizontal areas, though it may feel easier on the vertical areas. You only have a few microns of clear coat to work with and improper use of a rotary will burn through it and cause premature clear coat failure. I suggest you try on some going to be scrapped cars for practice... My 2 cents worth...
