Hmm so if i dun top up now and MM fail to get the next bid, do u think they will ask me top up again but at a higher price??? hm..

If top up can get COE immediately i dun mind. But now top up and wait for next bidding and on top of that is not guaranteed doesn't seems worth it. Maybe i should switch to another make such as terios.

No point to top up. The markup margin from the dealer is able to absorb a small increase in COE price. That's why most dealers only lower the car prices by $2K to $3K when COE was 5K+.

Query on both option, whether he willing to secure the coe or not. If he can secure it,ask him 1 bid max. get it written black and white.

Better still getting no top up package, guaranteed coe is the best.

Value of open cat is pegged at cat A or B,no matter how high open cat u payed.

Eg,if u pay $13K for open cat and the cat A car which is $12K,the value will be on cat A $12K.

Next time if u wanna sell, they will take 12K value instead of 13K

I see your point. But my top up is not for the open cat COE but for next bidding. So i still lose 2k if i top up. Just scared that they will exhaust all 4 bid citing too high COE pricing. But also it make give me more time to consider other car as well.

hi there I am also struck with the decision. The SE also asked me to top up $2k. My worry is after topping up, If COE goes up again would they come back and ask you for more top up?

which ride u bot ? top up 2K ? all depends on whether u need the ride immediately. chances is COE price likely to be quite well-supported at current level due to top up offer ...

Chose topping up, because 2000+ people waiting for COE, GST kicking in soon, and reduction in COE supply all combine to put a squeeze on the people getting their COE. But it depends on how urgent you are to get your car.

best is not to panic ... shd think logically ... usually those who rush to make decision will be burnt shakehead.gif

don worry too much lahz ... like tat cannot think logically.

Answer the following questions :

1. How urgent u need your ride ?

2. How much you are willing to top up ?

3. Are you willing to wait for next bid if the current one fails ?

Also not forgetting when is your next road tax and insurance renewal coming. Also the GST and the decrease of the COE quota.

A lot of factors come into play.

Hi all,

I just book a M3SP on 22 Feb 07. However, MM failed to secure a COE for the 07 Mar bidding. Subsequently, my SE called me to top up additional 2k for the next round bidding.

Should i adopt a wait and see attitude or opt for the top up? I was told that if top up MM will bid 13.5k if not they will just bid 10k. I wonder if this is some scare tactic adopt by them. This left use buyer no choice but to top up if they want the car fast.

What would u guys do if you are in my shoe? Kindly pls advise. Thank you I am left with 3 bid now .. hmm

I think no point to top up if no hurry. I know that price has increase, the problem for you is that you only left with 3bids.

I will top up only of said $2k top up will make it into guarantee COE and I am in hurry.

If no hurry, wait

I think most car dealer trying to scare buyer by saying COE quota reduce liao from April, but look at this:

Hehe, let me try to explain by using last year's figure:

Note: the quota is based on bidding exercise.

------------------------03/06 1st---03/06 2nd---04/06 1st---04/06 2nd---05/06 1st---05/06 2nd

COE quota for Cat A-----2792--------2792-------2222--------2225--------2223-------2222

COE--------------------$11,999-----$11,904----$11,901-----$11901------$10,003----$10,100

COE quota for Cat B-----1267--------1268-------1084--------1086--------1089--------1091

COE--------------------$12,555-----$13,556----$13,402-----$13101------$11,519-----$11,801

COE quota for Cat E-----1395--------1395-------1119--------1112--------1118--------1176

COE--------------------$12,697-----$13,689----$13,301-----$13000------$12,402-----$11,717

For Cat A, COE quota per month is reduced by 1020 compare to last year which reduce by 1140.

For Cat B, COE quota per month is reduced by 288 compare to last year which reduce by 260.

For Cat E, COE quota per month is reduced by 391 compare to last year which reduce by 560.

So some observation from above:

1) From last year figure, it can be seen that the drop in monthly quota from March 06 to April 06 is slightly more than drop in monthly quota from March 07 to April 07.

2) However, despite the drop in COE quota by close to 2K per month for cars (assume Cat A,B and E for cars) from March 2006 to April 2006, the increrase in COE price is mere $1k or so.

2) in fact, COE go down again in May 2006

So from the above, I can safely assume that even if there is increase in COE due to quota reduced, it will not be too high.

no, ARF drop in 2002 and 2004, and from 2006 onwards, our Minister said car price too cheap now, no need to drop ARF further [lipsrsealed]
