Protege 1st Gear November 29, 2007 Share November 29, 2007 Dear bros and sis, I am planning to get a DVD recorder so that i can record my fav shows on tv in case i am not around. Any brands to recommend? Preferably with HDMI output. Budget around 600-700. Was looking at the Hubstation as I am a Starhub Digital Cable user, but the feedback on the Hubstation was very bad due to lots of problems like auto rebooting, hang, etc. Anyone can share their experience with using a DVD recorder with a digital setup box from Starhub? If I am going to record a program on lets say HBO, I can only watch HBO right? I can't watch HBO and record Star Movies at the same time right? All comments on pros and cons will be appreciated! ↡ Advertisement

Robin 4th Gear November 29, 2007 Share November 29, 2007 i forgot to add that i can switch viewing/recording for free to air channels vs cable channel , cause i bought a cable splitter. 1 wire goes into my decoder box and another goes direct to my recorder

Fabulous Neutral Newbie November 29, 2007 Share November 29, 2007 (edited) Bro... If you are not going to move what you have recorded around(DVDs)... why not get the Starhub setup box that have build in recorder? Let me explain why.. Problem if you get a DVD recorder... 1) When you record 1 program and watch another program 2) If you want to record channel A from 4-5pm and channel B from 5-6pm if you are not at home is going to make you crazy.. you have to program both Setup box and DVD recorder. 3) A lot more cables to connect up as compared to the Starhub built in recorder setup box. By the way... note that if you do not have a HD setup box(only limited to Channel 11 and 12), recording will still be in normal format, HDMI or no HDMI connections will not make any difference, no need to spend more. Protege 1st Gear November 29, 2007 Author Share November 29, 2007 I did consider the Hubstation but I heard that it has a lot of problems. Thats why I am worried to get it. I know that the Hubstation will be much more convenient.

Fabulous Neutral Newbie November 29, 2007 Share November 29, 2007 Bro.. there are 5 Starhub setup box, don't get mixed up.. 1) Analog setupbox. 2) Digital Setup box 3) Hubstation - let you watch, surf, call 4) Setupbox with Recorder - Recording of programs possible. 5) HD setup box - For viewing HD programs. Protege 1st Gear November 29, 2007 Author Share November 29, 2007 Correct. It will become redundant. Anyway most users who get the hubstation will sign a contract with SB to get a better price. So most likely they will make full use of it for 2 years. After that, the most dump it and treat it as depreciation.
Fabulous Neutral Newbie November 29, 2007 Share November 29, 2007 In the first place... If you do not have SCV.. if there so many programs to record? Sorry to say but Media corps program really CMI... I only watch Media corp's CNA, that all... no need to record as there is always repeat telecast.. You may record like HBO and watch channel 8... no problem since u recorded it, no point watching the same channel isnt it =) Sometimes if 2 shows falls within the same timing, you record one and pause the other one then go out.. but there's a cache for pausing think 2 hrs or 3.. so if u are out for more than 2-3 hrs, most likely the front part of ur show will be missing hahaha
