Amortifiedpenguin Clutched May 31, 2009 Share May 31, 2009 Bro, your findings are interesting and not so bad. I have found dead baby cockroaches and tiny insects when I cleaned my stock paper filter on one of the occasions. Maybe my car will develop wings after these stuff were digested into the engine. dead cockroach i hear before. but BABY cockroacheS. oh boy. remember, red bull gives you wings! ↡ Advertisement
Yuan 6th Gear May 31, 2009 Share May 31, 2009 try to stop your car when going uphill, then accelerate again from still. it will give you the answer of a less compression piston ring due to weak filtration. this is what i encounter after using H filter for 3 years, fyi i change my engine oil every 7kkm. How did you diagnose that as a less compression piston ring? Are you still using stainless steel filter?
Yuan 6th Gear May 31, 2009 Share May 31, 2009 I still prefer to use K&N filter , used it for more than a year, still good and running fine. The mechanic check out my MAF sensor and its not so dirty compare with using H Brand steel filters. K&N used cotton and oil in a wire gauze as a form of medium to trap dirt and dust as compared to stainless steel which is hard metal which I think wet dirt/sand may just flow through the metal. Lau22 Neutral Newbie June 1, 2009 Share June 1, 2009 How did you diagnose that as a less compression piston ring? Are you still using stainless steel filter? u need to step harder in order to climb from still which is the same slope behind my wife office. the slope never change over years, but my picnic performance........sigh. i suspect those dirt also harm engine valve and somewhere is leaking during compression stroke. Do a diagnosis wld be good if you intend to keep the car for long term. Not sure whether UOA of your engine oil would help.
Trex101 3rd Gear June 2, 2009 Share June 2, 2009 Do a diagnosis wld be good if you intend to keep the car for long term. Not sure whether UOA of your engine oil would help. Nope, UOA can't tell the condition of the engine now but can show how much dirt it's getting through the SS filters. I would suspect the SI(dirt) level of at least 50-100ppm where as normal SI in Spore are around 10-20ppm.

Trex101 3rd Gear June 2, 2009 Share June 2, 2009 How about K&N? Would it be better than paper filtration? Depends on how well maintain is the K&N filter i suppose, i had seen some K&N filter fitted cars with very good filtration results and some which look like SS filter or worst. If you ask me, i would say that the best filtration(not necessary best flowrate) with least maintenance will have to be paper filter. I might bring in some EaA pod filter for my own ride in my next Amsoil shipment, it's in theory the best filtration & flowrate filter element around at the moment. Bettertomorrow Neutral Newbie June 7, 2009 Share June 7, 2009 How about K&N? Would it be better than paper filtration? Comparision of Filtration or air flow rate? Air flow rate: K&N Better. Filtration: Nothing hammer Paper filter.

Rickster86 Neutral Newbie November 13, 2009 Share November 13, 2009 hurricane filter is make of aluminium and almost with no mesh for filtering.. therefore its much better in performance as compare to KN&N but over time it sure does dmg ur engine as dust particle will be in ur engine regardless how dirty it is. Amsyl Neutral Newbie November 14, 2009 Share November 14, 2009 Stainless steel air filters have higher flow rates because they compromise on filtration. They actually let fine dust to enter the engine and your MAF Mass Air Flow sensor and throttle body will get dirty faster. A MAF sensor which is dirty does not send the correct signals to your ECU and because of this, may cause poor response, high FC and cause the engine CEL because of the close loop system for emissions. It is unlikely for the O2 sensor to fail because of the filtration.
Hisap Neutral Newbie November 15, 2009 Share November 15, 2009 TC car should steer clear of any form of ss filetr since the "shrapnels" might cause undue wear and tear on the turbine.

Not might, will cause wear & tear of the compressor turbine. We have seen turbines chewed up because of poor filtration. ↡ Advertisement
