You need licence from EMA to operate generator.

I would suggest everyone take a look at inverters, they work equally well, no noise, much less smoke, no 2t to worry about.

Only downside is you need to have the car's engine running after some time depending on how large your battery's capacity is.

 

Therefore, when using inverter, start with the front bonnet first with the car's engine off, then proceed to other parts with the engine on if needed.

 

I gave up on the generator after just one use, it is heavy to carry it from my home to the mscp, it is very noisy (unless you are using the honda generator which is quieter but cost much more), you have to make sure the exhaust points away from your work area and that the fumes are not blown towards your work area.

 

For inverters, the max power output is 200W. I don't think it can generate enough power if you are using a Meg DA which needs 550W of power. Unless you are talking about the Bosch Ob which only uses 60W.

Most likely is peak, but 2000W peak on average should be able to support 550W.

There's a maximum rating for use with ciggy plug.

I have a 3000W peak power/ 1500W continuous power inverter bought at Mustafa. It is connected to the battery directly via a 150A cable and is used to power a DAS6Pro, which require 850W to run if I did not remember wrongly.

It depends.

 

With the engine running, how much is the alternator's output at idling?

How much power is the car's electrical equipment drawing at idling?

 

Alternator's output power - Car's electrical equipment power requirement = amount of alternator's output left for you to charge the battery

 

If,

 

Alternator's output power - Car's electrical equipment power requirement - DA Polisher's power requirement = sufficient amount of current to keep battery charged

 

then you will not have problem.

 

If,

 

Alternator's output power - Car's electrical equipment power requirement - DA Polisher's power requirement = insufficient amount of current to keep battery charged

 

then your battery will still be flat after some time, even though the battery will not go flat as soon as purely running from battery power alone.

 

 

 

The above is just some points you need to take note when using inverter, these typically can be overcome by keeping your engine running even when the Polisher is not running, and letting your engine run for another 10 to 15 mins after you finish the polishing.

 

But this is not an ideal solution if you are polishing frequently, your catalytic converter will die sooner due to extended idling, you will waste a lot of petrol and create alot of bad gases in the long run.

 

 

A better solution for frequent polishers will be to use another deep cycle battery instead of the battery in the engine compartment. You can estimate how long you need to run the polisher then get a deep cycle battery with suitable capacity to last you throughout your whole session, then you bring your deep cycle battery home and charge at home using a battery charger.
