Everything happens faster in an MR car. I don't know any MR2 driver who hasn't spun the car at least once actually [:p] When I drove it, it was hella addictive having the engine behind and hearing the turbo spool right behind my head. Driving a front-engined car is like having a horse pull you around or sitting on a horse-drawn carriage. Driving the MR2 was a bit like how I'd imagine it would be if I'd strapped myself to a nuclear rocket and launched it with only a steering wheel for controls. [:p]

Of course it's dangerous to anyone who doesn't understand the car or hasn't had experience with MR cars before. But the MR2's limits are pretty high in the first place, much higher than ordinary bb cars, so unless one is being irresponsible with the machine, there shouldn't be much danger of an accident. Now of course, responsibility for that car involves tuning its suspension properly and keeping proper tyres on it (that thing BURNS tyres like nobody's business)... Properly done, it's the most fun little sports car that I can think of below a Porsche's price range, kinda like a snappy little husky to the GTR's big german shepherd for an analogy.

Yup, the turbo one is massively scary, and its pretty cheap power too, minimal mods and you can squeeze quite a lot out of that engine, 3s-gte was it?

i should go test out some more.

Yep the 3S-GTE. The later generation blacktop 3S-GE with dual VVTi were not bad too. That engine's the same one used in the Altezza RS200 and certain rare ones can do 260bhp without FI. I drove both (though the 3S-GE powered MR2 that I drove used the anaemic 3rd generation engine) before settling with the turbo one. It's pretty standard to expect that the NA MR2 would handle more predictably - autocross times for both NA and turbo versions were practically the same in the right hands. But when it comes to cranking out torque and bhp for dragging and cruising, I think the 3S is a very close second to the legendary 2JZ. In fact, the engine's design suggests that Toyota didn't do much more than make a 4 cylinder version of the 2JZ. [:p]

Plenty of Turbos for the car. Whats the HP you are looking at? Many upgraded to a gT28 or gt30 turbo.

Something to add on - don't bolt on a turbo to the 3S-GE. No matter what sort of stuff you hear from the mechanic, the 3S-GTE's block is much stronger and it has various little little upgrades such as enlarged and more efficient water and oil channels (not sure if that's the proper term) to cope with the stress of forced induction.

I thought TS's MR2 should be a 3SGTE already? It should be a gen2 3SGTE from the start unless TS one is a 1.6L version.

There're only 2 original 3S-GTE powered MR2s in Singapore and one is the unique red hard top (no T-bar) coupe. A 1991 MR2 would definitely be the Gen 2 one yes.

OIC, so the rest are actually NA versions.

Cast iron block?

That's all i know about the 2Js, despite having used to own one. lol. I'm leaning more towards the NA, if i were to get one, because it's going to be a daily, how's the comfort in stock form?

Looks like my information source is wrong. I got the information that all the MR2 in Singapore are non turbo versions.

3SGTE is a cast iron block. :)
