Think it's either there's some things on Altis that's not approved in S'pore.... or the Borneo motors guys chooses the model we have in Spore.... cos they like the design more...... one of the reason could be also that it's 1.8.... what do u think?

If you are a buyer of the new Corolla, when u know that it is made in Thailand will u buy? [crazy]

Most ppl will give a second thought again if Corolla is made in thailand. Toyota Corolla is part of BM bread and butter model, no matter where it is imported, the tax and custom tax still applies.

For G9, there are engines ranging from 1.3L to 1.8L, all are VVTi [:)] Locally we only receive 1.5/1.6L.

I thot the Altis was M'sian built by their local assembler, UMW ? Whenver I make across-the-causeway trips, I see lots of them Altises.

Admittedly, you've got a good point about the country of origin there - remember the Soluna (is it still arond ?)? Didn't see it selling like the hotcakes some expected it to, did it ? And seeing that ppl are willing to pay the asking price for the Japanese-built Corolla's (was just informed that the Corolla's are now all booked for the next month or two - scary thot), why bother to rock the boat.

Anyway, externally, I think the Altis looks better. Know what on it is not approved in S'pore ? Built-quality ? Ha-ha..... [laugh]

US Altis/Corolla launched as 2003 model and built in California [:)]

"The new Corolla is longer, taller and wider with a much more expressive, expensive-looking face. The interior feels rich, the fabrics are much nicer, and leather is now offered as an option. The seats are terrific, too, with better support that you got on the old model. Still, it

Maybe it has something to do with the conservative stance that dealers here most of the time have - go for the least likelihood of being rejected as too radical..... [crazy]

But the one we have in Singapore seems more radical than the one which M'sia gets! [laugh] The M'sian one seems more conventionally proportioned than the version we have in Singapore [crazy]

From the picture of the red Altis above, it does look like another of the dreaded "raise" backside type of cars we see on the roads - like Focus sedan and Echo sedan. I feel the current G9 Corolla in Singapore looks better than the one in the pic.

I think the new Impreza was visually designed first as the WRX. The regular ones tend to look dumpy and undertired, and the large headlamps are out of proportion with the rest of the body. Add in the deep chin spoiler, humungous gumball tires and butch paint however, and it looks just right. Ditto the new Lancer and Evo VII.

Speaking of the Imprezza, I find the sportshatch-wagon (or whatever they officially call it) rather more appealing than the sedan. Maybe it's got something to do with the weird butt of a boot it's got..... [:p]

I like the sports wagon too, but it comes with auto only [:/] And its a mite heavier than the sedan, with slightly reduced body rigidity and a shorter track? [:/]

Another 'auto-only' victim, huh ? [:/]

Oh well....knew about the higher body weight but didn't know about the rigidity bit, tho'. Know whether it's serious enough to affect the overall package ?
