Sunny already fixed with CAI?

I was checking my Sunny's engine bay today as thinking of putting a stabilizing bar and a CAI.

However, when i checked the air intake pipe i noticed there were two pipes. One was extented till behind the head-lights while the other was extended all the way to the bottom of the engine bay near the front facing down.

Anyone else driving the new FL Sunny notice this? So this means no need CAI?

The sunny does not come with CAI piping by default. The pipe that goes below to the fender region is where the resonator is situated. The pipe that extends to the headlamp is the air intake. The air is sucked in from the air intake, travels down to the resonator and finally to the filter box. The purpose of the resonator is to reduce the induction noise by slowing down the air speed. The air intake is sucking in air from the engine bay so the air temp is pretty hot.

To do a CAI, u need to remove the resonator and the stock air intake and pipe the air directly from the fender region. You can diy it by buying the hose and fixing it yourself or autodesigns at unity centre can do it for you at 60 bucks.

Btw I have a hks drop-in foam filter dat was used for less than 2 mths going for 50 bucks for sale. It's extremely clean. It will fit your sunny as I'm also driving a FL sunny. Changed to open pod so this is redundant. Nice induction sound after fitting this hks filter. Dry foam type so no need to worry abt your MAF being contaminated with oil.

Thanks for the info. That was fast reply [:p]

I think i better stick with the stock air intake as removing the resonator will prob void the warranty.

I still have my old K&N air filter from my previous car but not using it as it causes too much engine "vroooom" noise. Now not so young so prefer the quietness and also enjoy some jazz. [laugh]

Warranty is a tricky issue. But honestly, the resonator does not serve any purpose of slowing down the air flow. Doing a CAI will give you slightly better FC as cooler air is drawn from the outside instead of the hot air from the engine bay which will have less O2 in it.

Neutral Newbie

My previous ride was the 1.6A Sunny....... fixing the CAI will not void the warranty, in fact the SE at Tan Chong used to ask me about the effects of the CAI! [laugh] ...... but just make sure when it's installed properly and you don't damage any other component in the engine bay. Also, CAI is LTA friendly... very impt [:)]

Many of us who installed it has no regrets [thumbsup] Frankly, many says the CAI is noisy..... why not you sit in a Sunny with CAI, bet you can't hear the diff [;)]
