    Woodturning

    I've recently been rather into woodturning videos on Youtube. Yes, there is my already-present fascination with woodworking. And also yes, there is certainly the ASMR aspect of it. But something about woodturning seems especially incredible to me from a crafting perspective, because it appears to require such a clarity of creative vision and process. Unlike putting different pieces of wood - or other materials - together (admittedly also a craft in itself), there's seemingly no real room for error. And to be able to visualise an end-product so clearly is remarkable to me. The process itself is also so satisfying to watch - seeing layers peel away to reveal the next step in the design process, and also the often symmetrical nature of the products. And there is also something just quite mesmerising about seeing a spinning object, I think. And yes, I continue to be deeply fascinated and impressed but such craftspeople who are able to extract genuine beauty and creativity out of products. Maybe it's also an admission of my own lack of crafts ability. Anyway, check this out:
