  1. First things first, lets talk about a film that merges pulsating action with a touch of science fiction: War of the Worlds (2005). Starring Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning, this Steven Spielberg-directed spectacle (adapted from H. G. Wells’ classic novel) sees aliens returning to Earth and rising out of the ground in machines buried thousands of years ago. One thing to note is that the realism of the alien machines and their menacing presence set the tone for an intense cinematic journey. Despite this intensity, the aliens’ motivations are kept ambiguous, creating a sense of mystery. Tom Cruise plays Ray Ferrier, a flawed but dedicated father trying to protect his children as things fall apart. Dakota Fanning, playing his daughter, brings a nuanced performance that balances innocence with a startling awareness of their dire circumstances. While some might feel that the characters lack depth and aren't particularly relatable, their desperation and raw emotional responses resonate deeply, particularly in the basic human instinct for survival. Though this movie is two decades old, make no mistake that this is arguably a feast for the eyes and mind. Allowing your imagination to run wild and putting yourself in the characters’ shoes will make for a better watch, trust me. ~ Fremont (Images by WallpaperSafari)
