Infiniti to drop into Singapore, at last

Infiniti has announced that it is coming to Singapore by the second half of this year, after appointing Wearnes Automotive as the official dealer for its cars locally.

For some, the news is long overdue, as Infiniti has grown in quality over the past few years to become a credible rival to fellow Japanese luxury brand Lexus.

Some may remember that Infiniti has graced our shores before though, albeit briefly. In the late 1990s, around 1997 or so, local Nissan dealer Tan Chong Motors brought in the Infiniti Q45 luxury sedan, to supplement its Nissan range.

Unfortunately, the Q45 sold poorly, and Tan Chong quietly dropped the model from its line-up after a couple of years.

Since then, Infiniti has had very little presence in the local market, with perhaps just one or two models brought in by parallel importers to show for it.

Now, however, with the latest announcement by Wearnes, Infiniti is making a comeback once again.

Let's hope they last a bit longer this time though, for their current products, especially the G-Series sports coupe and sedan (essentially a rebadged Nissan Skyline), M-Series luxury sedan and the EX and FX crossovers come across as mighty fine cars.

The only minor thing that confuses me is that why did the brand end up with Wearnes instead of Tan Chong, given the close affiliation between Nissan and Infiniti.

Perhaps it's a money issue, or a branding issue. But regardless, at least we finally get to see Infiniti officially back in Singapore now.

  • Godzilla Minus One: Surprisingly emotional and poignant

When one thinks of Godzilla movies, one imagines an oversized amphibious dinosaur generating a terrifying heat ray from its mouth and fighting with other oversized monsters. Meh, nothing special, right? Wrong. Here’s why Godzilla Minus One should be an action movie you should definitely catch. In this version, the timeless clash between monster and man is once again set against the tumultuous backdrop of post-war Japan. But, unlike typical action films that dive headfirst into destruction a

Are forums outdated? I try to find out by asking AI

Is your boss asking you to explore and learn how to use AI to improve the quality and efficiency of your work? Yup, you aren't the only one in that boat.  Whilst exploring new AI tools, I figured: Why not use it to answer some burning questions that I have? This time, it was about whether forums are outdated. Yes, forums like this one that we are on. I remember how before social media became popular, and before apps like Carousell existed, forums were where I chatted with others t

The Music that Shaped Me, Pt. 2

Note: If you’ve stumbled onto this post without any context, do read Pt. 1 here first! It is said that the average person’s music taste starts to solidify early on in their adult lives, and by their early 30s they will begin to say things like “Music was better in my day”, “>insert your favourite artist or genre< is not real music”, something to that effect. Of course, I am speaking generally. With four more years to go till I hit 30, I’d like to think I try to expand my tastes o

Cordless vacuum cleaners: A young adult's best friend?

Every young adult probably arrives at the same point when they’ve started working for a few years: Household chores start to become more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong – they don’t have to be one’s favourite activity on earth. But chores start to make sense: An environment that’s put-together is always a welcome haven, whether it’s returning home after a long day out, or simply staying in over the weekend (or when you’re working from home.) As a young adult myself, I've come to appreciate an
