Bluecar Neutral Newbie November 2, 2005 Share November 2, 2005 hello there, how old is your 206? My engine mount shows sign of wear, some light cracks when it was 4 years old...
Vincentacy Neutral Newbie November 2, 2005 Author Share November 2, 2005 Hi Bluecar, I do believe, there are three engine mounts right? When I collected my car on the 21/10/05, I heard some noise (while travelling slow and if you don't bother to listen hard, you will not hear it) and I also brought the car down to Friday Peugeot meetup and upon some test ride with some members of the Peugeot guys in it, they also heard it. I decided to bring the car down to the service centre the following morning. Remesh served me and got a mechanic to go for a short ride with me, very short ride round the inside service centre drive way. He insisted that it's the engine mounting... I collected my car a few hours later... he told me that the mounting was unusally loose. Instead of tightening it, he changed one or more of it. Anyway, I can still hear the same noise. I don't think it's the engine mount... but I am glad they checked mine in the beginning and even changed it (I am not sure how many they changed though). during my 1,000km, I only did the oil change as I needed the car quickly. Will get them to looking into the sound again when they move to Alexandra. Vincent Ang
Soleution Neutral Newbie November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 Thank for sharing, only for my tiptronic, it wouldn't 'upshift' by itself, change gear b4 2000rpm or below 2100 rpm, Hmmm...must give it a try to see if it lose power under such early gear change, I only do it before 2500rpm. Blackculm Neutral Newbie November 3, 2005 Share November 3, 2005 Care to describe the sound? According to AF guy, there r a total of 5 engine mounts (3 major and 2 minor ones). I changed mine cos the workshop guy said the sound is due to crackin mounts. However the sound persists after changing it. I went to Thomas & Partners and he said that the sound is due to broken oil pumps in the gearbox. Waiting to be check by AF now and then get it fix at Thomas. By the way, my car is about 3 yrs old. Have changed my timing belt, fan belt, transmission oil, engine oil, engine mounts. Next in line is to get my gearbox fix. It seems that gearbox problem is quite common in pugs and a very expensive problem as well according to Thomas. Pugs unite!
Bluecar Neutral Newbie November 4, 2005 Share November 4, 2005 yap 3 engine mounts and a gearbox mount. Normally if 1 of it is cracked, workshop will advise to change all 4.
Silver_blade Turbocharged November 4, 2005 Share November 4, 2005 Actually gearbox problem is not just common for Pug, but french cars in generally.
Bluecar Neutral Newbie November 4, 2005 Share November 4, 2005 one new gearbox should cost more than $10K...triptronic ones will cost near to $20k. Service parts of a peugeot gearbox are ex too!! So its always wise to change your atf regularly.
Vincentacy Neutral Newbie November 4, 2005 Author Share November 4, 2005 Actually gearbox problem is not just common for Pug, but french cars in generally. Is that why they opt for the Porsche's Tiptronic gearbox now (in the recent models)? Unless you are telling me, this Porsche gearbox also got problem? Wrxblue 1st Gear November 4, 2005 Share November 4, 2005 It is not the tiptronic design at fault..just that the AL4 model auto gearbox used is a problematic one especially used in our Hot and humid weather...hence it is neccessary to change your gearbox oil as often as you can, the manufacturer says "no need to change" but probably for Europe only. According to source, the AL4 gearbox will develop problem once it reach 80-100K km
