Problems with Headunit

Just recently, my wife drove the car and she did some adjustments to the car (not sure what), but now, I can only play CDs.

The Radio does not have any output.

The remote antenna still comes up, and when I do a scan, the frequencies can still be found.

Did something short circuit a wire when she moved the car or hit something beneath the dash (she said that she adjusted the seat all the way back ... and that's where I have an amplifier - I'm guessing that it's possible that she snagged a wire when she did that.)

Anyone has a clue to what is wrong?

Could the head unit just spoil like that?

Don't think it has anything to do with the amplifier...if it is you will not hear anything at all, not even from the CD. [:)]

For your problem, the only way is to open up to access the back of your HU and check to make sure the antenna connector did not come loose. Other than that, it's possible the tuner in your HU has just retired. [;)]

I know that some of the cables at the back of the Head unit were not connected to begin with.... and if the antenna connector is not connected, I don't think my headunit would be able to scan and stop at our local stations....

BTW, should I hear static if there's no connection?

Headunit just turned 4 years old.... still in pretty good shape (It's a Sony Xplod unit)

Maybe I should go back to J L Sim Lim and ask for help....

..but as my last few additions were DIY, I am a little paiseh if my low quality work caused any problems tongue.gif

I have a central grounding point for my amps, and since both are functioning (power light is on, speakers work when a CD is played), I would assume that the grounding is still in place.

When it is off station (rojar freq) do u hear any hissing sound ?

Rightfully if ur CD is ok ur radio should have sound too as they are all using the same output circuit. Unless ur radio is down.

If you can still scan and stop at known radio station, looks like have to visit repair shop for further checking.

From your description...

1. amplifier connection problem - No. cause have sound when playing CD.

2. Antenna connection loose - No. cause can scan and stop at known radio station. If antenna connection is not there, should hear "hiss" sound (unless your HU has silence mode when it's not tune/lock to the radio station) and it will keep on scanning for station.

3. Radio broken - ???
