Familymanz 3rd Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 "Its a great car to drive...even though its engine capacity is only 1242cc, its pick up and acceleration can match most of the 1.6L cars or even beat them... " really? it is a manual? when you compare, is it auto compared with auto, manual compared with manual and both driver's pushing their cars? what is the punto's 0-100kmph timing? Auto trans.... Century timing....11.4s

Hicksau Neutral Newbie February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 Ya, I know. And I expect the price to be very high also. So maybe when I am ready to change a new ride next time, Grande will be phasing out already, then it will be cheaper to get one then.I think for me a 1.3 Punto is enough, as I hardly travel north so my top speed will be less then 110KM/H. And right now I only ferry wife and 1 kid, my parents once in a while. So believe a 1.6L ride will be over kill for me. Then I still need to pay extra road tax for it...... Anyway, is the road show at IMM still there? If yes I will go and have a look. same here, bro ... i do top that speed outside singapore... i ferry the same amount of pple plus a pet .. you trying a punto ? Damienic 5th Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 Sorry for not replying earlier. I was on reservist. Handling is quite good. Comfort level I would say is above average. What makes it really stand out is its very responsive engine. Car is also very stable at high speeds. I din really feel anything when I hit 125km/h during the test drive. As for engine noise, it has got this typical 'alfa' vroom vroom sound when you accelerate. Some people like this kind of sound as it feels like a turbo whereas some may find it noisy. Its quite subjective in this regard. Another good thing about this car is its reportedly good FC which has been testified also by some Punto owners in this forum. Damienic 5th Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 It is a auto with tiptronic (or easytronic or whatever they call it) functions. When I compare, it is auto with auto, cos I have not driven a manual car for many years and hence whenever I test drive, it is only with auto vehicles. Its 0-100 is indicated as 11.9 which is better than quite a lot of the other (1.3-1.6L)auto conti makes which posted figures of around 13-14. Comparing conti with conti and jap with jap is more realistic by the way as jap manufacturers have a different way of gauging their 0-100. Do a test drive and you will be convinced. Damienic 5th Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 Don't need, I don't like jazz anyway, too common. The number of Jazz on the road is almost same as the Taxi on the road..... If really to compare will be the following short listed. Mazda 2 Sp Ford Fiesta Suzuki Liana Hey hey, I test drove the Ford Fiesta 1.6 before. Also quite responsive car and pretty impressive in other aspects. In terms of price, it is currently selling at about 53K, but after thinking for a while, still decide to go with the Punto. Price difference is only 1K, but Punto's OMV is higher and have a reportedly better FC. I still prefer the feeling of driving a Punto more than the Fiesta though I have to say that Fiesta is quite a competent vehicle too.
Damienic 5th Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 bro, new punto grande comin out. U buy one now is outdated v soon ah.. Not exactly lah. Punto Grande is a different class altogether with higher spec. It is expected to cost at least 10K more than the normal Punto. So, if someone is looking for an affordable but good vehicle to drive, the normal Punto will be a good choice. However, if that person is willing to consider a budget of over 60K, then wait for the release of Punto Grande loh. I was aware that PG is going to be in Singapore soon but that din affect my final choice becos any cars above 55K is strictly out of my budget. Felipe 3rd Gear February 15, 2006 Share February 15, 2006 tot the punto 0-100 is 11.4s? but then maybe that's for 1 passenger. at least the punto cvt has a 6 speed shifter, which beats the jazz in terms of driving fun anyday. the jazz cvt is uggh... its actually nothing really odd about the punto quickness as its a light car...lighter than jazz if im not wrong. imo, its the best current supermini in auto mode. forget about the rest unless ure thinking of a swift or jazz manual. the jap mini auto simply cmi. also, i think the punto manual is actually a 8 valve. those getting it try to get the sunroof version if possible....the nonsunroof has a higher rear headroom though. Toalson 1st Gear February 16, 2006 Share February 16, 2006 The sunroof version had been sold out long ago. N not sure if they still be bringing in.
Sunrise Neutral Newbie February 16, 2006 Share February 16, 2006 Btw, any comment on the noise insulation of the punto? The new Punto grande is apparently of a much better quality than the current generation. It also looks more stylish and some have said that the front grille resembles a maserati. The right hand drive version has started being produced; and foreign magazines like top gear etc would soon report on road test. Soon, the new conti hot hatch trio will be peugeot 207, Renault clio and fiat punto grande.
