Hi,

Is your Octavia Classic from JTA Motors? I believe the a/c compressor is locally fitted. Some of the Octavias from JTA Motors are fitted with locally-installed power window units. That is also a part which is prone to breakdown.

JTA tried to cut the cost of the Octavias back then. Factory fitted a/c compressors are only available on the Ambiente. Sadly, the a/c compressors in the Classic are locally fitted according to another Classic owner and an experienced mechanic in CA.

Difficulty in starting (assuming that starter motor is alright), are signs of weak battery(maintenance type). Not too sure about locking the back door when engine is started, but if doors cannot be lock or open in a sequence are signs of weak battery too.

These faults are normal ones, as for the radiator fan could not be, try giving it a knock, or if it is turning slowly, it is carbonised, cleaning is required and not changing.

Didnt notice that one of the radiator fan has stopped. Was found out by Servo during servicing. Anyway spend $$ to change it already.

Yeah, there's another good thing about Servo, they don't anyhow change parts for you unless neccesary [thumbsup] ... Furthermore, they will inform you first before proceeding [;)] ...

BTW, servo can check whether your battery is in good conditions or not. Let me know if you need help dude [laugh] ...

(edited)

Thanks for the prompt to go down to Servo.

Pardon me for saying this, I think all mechanics are the same after this experience, they need to pay high overheads(I am being polite here). (Second such experiences )Denis quoted me verbally about high S$1,000+ to replace my ABS. I have found on the net, and it cost 70 Pounds. The way to repair ABS is to unscrew the 3 brakes pipings, 1 plugs(the one you told me about) and 4 bolts holding it.

As for the batter check, a simple equipement that cost S$6.50, can help and can be purchase at Autobac or many car accessories shop, I used it often to check.
