I think it is possible for the Swift to hit 180kph. Most 1.5L cars should be able to hit 180kph given the right circumstances (Straight level road, no crosswinds, or better still down slope) even in stock form. And a 1.5L Swift being rated 90bhp and sitting at 1060kg, the power to weight ration is quite remarkable.

The right signal is a common thing for cars in NSH esp when going in highspeed. It is as a warning for cars in front to signal your presence and for them to give way.

180kph at 4600rpm is possible depending on the gear ratio and final drive. Too bad I duno whet to decipher the readings vs the specs.

If this is true, imagine what a M16A can do!!

...who would go at 180 and switch on the right turn signal lamps ?....

Er... I do? Right signal all the way from customs to Melaka? Oh, headlamps on in broad daylight too. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

Test drove the Swift 1.5 manual and auto, and also the Swift Sport 1.6.

Verdict. Don't get the Swift 1.5 (manual or auto). The gearshift for the manual is sluggish and the rpm dropped tremendously after shifting gear. The rpm struggles to climb even after revving the previous gear to above 4500rpm. Autogear needless to say, I think a kelisa might do better. The suspension setup for the basic Swift sucks bug time. I thought I was in a motorboat when travelling along West Coast Road. The bodyroll is way too much for safety and comfort. My gf who was seated at the rear nearly puke. Brakes although rear drums are decent enough. I think there is no dead pedal in the manual? Cos I cant seem to rest my left foot anywhere. For OMV of $11000 on average for both, this car is not worth the money.

Swift Sport 1.6. Supposingly comes in close ratio gearbox. I duno they meant as in shorter shifter, or close ratio gears, cos although the response is realtively good, it cant compare to a stock Civic B16A or even the D16 (EG/EK series). The gearshift is much better than the basic swift defintely. The car revs up faster although power kicks in only after 4000rpm. Brakes are good but there's not really that much of a diff if you drive the basic swift with drums. The discs will be apparent when you do some long duration of hard brakings I suppose. The suspension setup is much better. This is what a 'sport' model should be at the minimal. The bodyroll at corners is held up nicely by the monrone sport shocks and when going through ripples on the road, the shock held the car firmly onto the road.

For both models, the rear space is a disappointment. I drove the Toyota Echo hatch before and the rear was much spacious. And the Swift Sport bucket seats are a joke. Whats the use of a bucket when you cant use a 5 point harness as there is no shoulder holes on the seats? And without the holes, rear passenger's view are blocked. And the dumb design for the rear seat head rest. They are so uncomfortable and the sitting posture is too straight. Boot space is rather small but its nice for the rear seats being able to spilt fold for bigger space. Glove compartment cant even fit in a tissue box or a mid size street directory. The dash is too deep and IU too far away hence.

I have decided not to get neither of both unless this is my personal car. If I am going to own this car for the next 5 to 7 years, and with plans of settling down next year, this is NOT the car for me.

And not forgetting one major thing, the OMV for the Swift Sport is only at $12500 or so. For those who wana get the Swift Sport, go to PI instead. Their OMV is in the range of $14 to $17K.

my getz can take two 17-inch mountain bikes..

maybe the swift can also? but one bike is really no big deal

i will agree that the swift is a better car [thumbsup] , but my 2nd line says it all

I've parked a swift 1.5 before. can't tell much from parking it, but the clutch is nice and stiff, brings back fond memories of my eurovan clutch [laugh]. I like the gear stick too.

Swift is not really meant to be a practical car IMHO. so no need to try to prove so. getz will be a far more practical car (speaking from my limited experience with cars, if u say jazz even more practical, probably, since the boot is big! [nod] ) but it lacks in charm, character, power and image. [rolleyes]
