Alpha78 6th Gear October 8, 2006 Share October 8, 2006 Dear Gurus, I am looking to improve my stock ICE at a small budget, appreciate some feedback from the gurus here. For starters, my stock ICE is the JVC KW-XC406 HU with 4 speakers. My Latio has all 4 speakers on the doors, the rear speakers are not on the back board. For playing CDs and radio, the sound is acceptable to me, since my ears are not so concerned about sound imaging. Vocal clarity is ok too, so my only gripe with this system is that the bass saturates easily when turned to higher volumes or when the songs have more punchy bass. Not sure if it's due to my turning on of bass boost with an EQ setting that has higher bass. My intention is to use a Sony amp, model XM-SD46X, which is listed as $399 on Sony SG website. Pairing this to the Sony 10 inch sub XS-L101P5 ($151), and drive my stock speakers first. According to the specs found on other sites, the amp is a bridgable one, so I suppose I can run it with my HU's front output to 2 channels powering the stock speakers, and the rear channel from HU powering to the bridged channel in the amp to power the sub. So one question is, what happens to my rear speakers? Do I have to disconnect them, or can I use the HU direct output to the rear? According to the Nissan audio technician, it's either RCA or HU outputs, not both. Given the price, can I get better quality amps and sub from other brands? Probably I'll consider upgrading the component speakers too if I have budget in future, but not upgrade to top dollar stuff. ↡ Advertisement
Wireless Neutral Newbie October 8, 2006 Share October 8, 2006 (edited) Bro... Why don't you use a Pioneer underseat subwoofer that only cost you $380 all in amp and subwoofer.. bass generated is not too bad when you talk about Budget.. your intension cost $450 and takes up space... Alpha78 6th Gear October 8, 2006 Author Share October 8, 2006 Space is not a big problem for my Latio since it has a big boot. Also I understand that underseat woofers are not as powerful as boot woofers. I intend to box up the woofer as well. Probably limiting myself to a budget of $800 or less including installation.
