HI

I am getting my new black car in Jun,As i have not wax/polish on my own before thus need to ask a few q? Hope u can help

1. Is glare good ? Can glare user post your views here ? eg when was glare apply, how is the shine now, any particular issue or care need to know, how many times have u gone back to them for car wash? Price pay and carmake ? www.glare.com.sg

2. DIY ? Which brand/product should I used (Black Car) ? Does the members here meetup to do waxing and washing together ? I do not know how although going thru the forums (very stupid) if u guys do meet up can I tag along and learn from u ?

3. When should I sent the car for professional grooming after I got my car, one weeks or 2 weeks ? some members say in this forum that new car should not polish/wax first ? Anyone can recommend me a good grooming centre ?

I am thinking of using glare but not sure whether it is worth the price ? if it can stay the shine as they promised (18 mths) then I may consider.

Thanks for any info

and lastly, my personal view, no polish can stay for such long time without touchup.

Hi Cheong,

Welcome to MCF ! Do enjoy your stay here and come along for our weekly meetups. More info in our MEETUPS folder. nod.gif

IMHO, black is a very nice colour. nod.gif Once they've been polished, you'll get a mirror finish. thumbsup.gif However, you do need to take extra care because fine scratches, water spots, and dirt are easily seen. sweatdrop.gif

To give you an idea of what you can do to wash/wax/polish your car...do take a look in our DETAILING folder. nod.gif Threads to look out for in this folder are the 'Car Washing' thread, and types of polish/waxes like 'Zaino', 'Klasse', 'Hi-Glaze88', 'Autoglymn', 'Meguairs', '3M'. If you are thinking of sending your car to a grooming centre, you can look out for keywords like 'Groomworks', 'Cazcomp', and 'Autoglymn'. wink.gif

As to which polish/wax to use, it is up to personal preference, I have already mentioned the popular ones that we use...for Klasse..it is only available overseas, so we'll have to make a bulk purchase and have it shipped back. For Zaino, info and ordering is available at the Cazcomp web site, its local. Hi-Glaze88 and 3M Liquid Wax is available locally at most petrol stations and supermarts like Giant, Carrefour, and also in car accessory shops.

You can join us for our w&w [wash & wax] sessions... details will be posted in the MEETUPS folder whenever there is one...so keep a lookout for it. You can also take the opportunty to feel our members cars to help you make a decision as to which product to get. Currently, the members meeting up at the w&w sessions are using Klasse and Hi-Glaze88. nod.gif

For grooming centres: Autoglymn use Autoglymn only [obviously], Groomworks uses Meguairs, Autoglymn and Zaino, and Cazcomp uses Zaino.

Generally, try not to apply any polish/wax on your car paintwork for at least 2 weeks after it has been sprayed with a new coat of paint, this is to allow the paint to cure and bond itself to the car body. My guess is that by the time you collect your car...it would have been past that duration, so you can go ahead and polish the car. nod.gif

Here are some threads which you may find useful [you can click on the titles and they will open in another window for you to browse through]:

2003 Klasse Group Buy

3M Liquid Wax

Klasse or Zaino

Feedback on Hi-Glaze88

Car Washing

More stuff is in the DETAILING folder like I said.

For Glare stuff, they are marketed as a GlassPlexin product that requires only one non-renewable application which is warranteed for 18 months at a cost of S$588 for a medium sized car. There will also be a quarterly 'inspection' at Glare so that they can give your car an 'Ultra-Wash' and also 'touch up' any areas which may have deteriorated for whatever reason. There is a 10% discount for AAS members. Look for Patrick, and tell him that the guy with 10 coats of Hi-Glaze88 from the online forum recommended you, and he'll see what he can do for you. No guarantees tho. tongue.gif

Here is the link to the Glare thread... http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...st_reply;so=ASC

An alternative is to send your car for professional grooming the first time, learn from them, and then apply the subsequent layers yourself. I would try grooming centres like Groomworks [look for Yong] or Cazcomp [look for Chandra].

Most of the contact details are in the Resources folder, including tips on how to clay bar your car. I will be posting more information on detailing products in there soon.

Hope this helps. nod.gif
