Thanks for the suggestion! [;)]

Magfocus also suggested likewise for the 5 series - now waiting to see when my old man is free for the test drive [sly]

I know some French - but then, the words are quite 'vocal' [:p]

Only use them on drunks who deserve the attention [laugh]

Hi, I feel strange about this compressor got busted thingy. E200ML should still be under 3 years warranty by C&C because these cars should be under 3 years old till now.

In Europe, their mileage is so much higher than in Singapore. If Merc has this kind of problems, it would had surface in those long term reports.

Mechanics sometimes do make quick bucks. By the way, changing a compressor should not need to reprogramme ECU.

Some of the PI models are not suited to local climate..... the agent will tell you the radiator is too small etc.....

You will save averagely about S$10k for a PI model but you have to look at what you get..... I'm not sure about the C&C models but most (or all) PI models have their leathers done locally..... you will notice the quality of leather not up to the best of them......

And some airbag installations (esp in the seats) cannot be done elsewhere other than the factory.... so look out for that....

As for the warranty, well, the C&C models have three years warranty whilst the PI models have only two years..... moreover, there are some extra charges for PI models being serviced in C&C workshops.....

At the end of the day, I think you will find that you get what you pay for.......

Hi Luke721,

There's been some extensive discussion on the E-Class [and also the 5-Series] in another thread here...

http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...st_reply;so=ASC

...so you might want to check it out also. nod.gif Your dad might even want to try out the 520iA. sly.gif

Warranty: C&C offers a 1+2 year warranty. 1st year is manufacturer [Daimler Chrysler], next 2 years is given by C&C. For PIs, if you want to service your car at C&C, you'll have to pay S$200+ [there is a sign at the service centre reception], and even then, C&C cars get first priority for servicing.

Identification: C&C cars have a C&C "sticker" on the boot....PI cars dont..thats the only way to tell.....unless the owner has debadged it.

Country of Manufacture: Open the driver's door...look at the B pillar...there should be a black rectangular sticker with some white letterings on it..also states the vehicle's serial number. eg. WDB xxxxxx or WDC xxxxx. WDB = Made in Germany. WDC = Made in South Africa. From what I hear from mechanics...South African models tend to have more problems.

Equipment Lines: There are 3 equipment lines [ie. option levels]; Classic [brought in by PIs], Elegance and Avant Garde [brought in by C&C]. Main differentiation between the 3 equipment lines is by looking at the door handles and front grille.

Classic has black door handles & aluminium grilles. 16" wheels. Walnut interior trim.

Elegance has a chrome strip on the handles and aluminium grilles. 16" wheels on 205/55/R16 wheels. PI models give 225/50/R16 wheels. Walnut interior trim.

Avant Garde is full body colour handles and black grilles. Aluminium interior trim. Lower skirt also has an additional splitter on the mesh. Comes with 17" wheels.

After Sales: You have to go back to C&C for major servicings in order to keep your warranty. There are outside specialist MB workshops that service, repair them also...so most PI cars go to them. They are still cheaper than C&C.

Hope this helps. nod.gif

Just my S$0.02. tongue.gif

Whoa ... thanks for the very detailed write-up [thumbsup]

My old man still hasn't decided (cuz economy and his business isn't exactly broncho now thus the Matrix was 'born' in Jan this year)...

But he went for a test-drive recently on the new E200 (I think it's your model) ... not sure what his decision is yet ... [laugh]

Really appreciate your write-up - will be sure to hand to over to him for his reference [thumbsup]
