SONY and ALPINE

Happen to be able to choose one of the HU

but duno which one is better..

can anyone help ??

 

SONY CDX-L450X (45w*4) CDR/RW

and

ALPINE CDM-7854E (40w*4) CD receiver

bro, if just normal listening, no amp no better speakers, no sub, ie, stock stock system, just want to change HU, up to you, choose which one looks better to your liking

 

but if want to have a 'above average' or up to a 'hardcore high end' system, alpine is the way

but the (45w x 4) and (40w x 4)

sony is 5w higher ??

hi kinder, the watt stated there refers to the speaker output the HU is capable of, ie, if you use amp, these ratings dont matter at all, they are only applicable if you connect speakers direct to HU---no amp

 

and note, the 40 or 45watt is the maximum rating, which you will never get, the rms nominal rating is a better gauge, and what i remember, normal HU rms is only about 15 to 25 watt per channel, my alpine 9853 is 17watt x 4 (rms)

 

but end of the day, 40w or 45 or some even 50w max is not important, wont make any big difference, but i would say go with the alpine though? i used various brands of HU so far and alpine still my choice

hi bro im not a high end user

but just wanna hv a better sound

 

for example i got 4 speakers of 150w

den if i wanna add in a normal amp

den the amp has to be how many watt

is it to be below 150w or higher.

 

or is it no point adding an amp

as my speaker watt is too low?

hey man, no problem, glad you enjoying, got difference right? even stock-to-stock, i remember when i diy-ed my 2nd alpine HU (sold off the first one and regret thats why buy back alpine again), just change HU already the 'ears feel better' like you mentioned

 

150w on your speaker is max or nominal (RMS) rating? im not so pro at matching amp to speaker, maybe others can advise on this,

but as a rough guide, get an amp which has a (nominal RMS) rating around +/- your speaker's RMS rating, should be a safe basis to start on

hello guy

i got basic setup question

 

when i wanna fix a new my speaker

there are 2 cable one is +/positive and the other is -/negative

how do i know which one is positive or negative

 

den i find out tat if i put either ways, the speaker still works

will there b any harm to my speaker if i connect wrong since both ways works?

meaning the positive cable is not to the positive side of the speaker

yes it does matter.

This will determine the phase of the speaker, in other words, the direction the speaker fires, either inwards or outwards.

Although some speakers can sound better reverse phase, it's always advisable to do it in phase so getting the right connection matters.

Both left and right must be the same phase.

One easy way to test is to use a regular 1.5V battery, either AA or AAA size also can.

Just hold one wire to the negative on the battery and use the other wire to tap on the positive and then see which direction the speaker is moving...remember not to hold the wires there or it might spoil the speaker..just tapping will do and you will see the speaker move.

Use this to determine which wire is the + and which is the - on the speaker.
