Mixing engine oils of same brand still ok. Not advisable to mix different brand oils.

My opinion is that engine oils are chemicals and chemicals should not be mixed without in-depth knowledge. You never know, the additives in the 2 oils may conflict with each other and do more harm than good to your engine.

Can mix lah.... if its synthetic oil you have inside your engine, then stick with synthetic for top up. Doesn't really matter what grade..... [sweatdrop]

Been doing that for years as my ride is an oil drinker..... I lose as much as 2 quarts over the life of the OCI. (8 to 10K kms)

I use left over Karlub for that matter. [:p]

Mixing is not a problem.

However, if possible stick to same type, syn to syn, min to min.

Once u found the oil of your choice, stick to it.

Generally, I believe most engine oil can be mixed.

Why don't you state which engine oil you currently using, and which engine oil you intend to top up with, that way will be more specific. wink.gif

Brand = Shell, Mobil, Castrol, cxxxxxe, etc.

Type = Pure Synthetic (eg: Amzoil), Synthetic, Semi-Synthetic and Mineral.

SAE Grade = 10W-40, 5W-30, etc.

Standard = API (SM or SL) or AECA ( A1, B2, etc).

So, Brand can be mixed. Type can be mixed, except for Pure Synthetic. Grade try to keep within close proximity, and use Standard which fits your car.

actually most of us mixed different brand oil quite often.

imaging during car servicing, the old engine oil can not drained out completely, then put different brand oil......
