Use garmin in australia

Hi all,i was told by a sales guy that garmin is cheaper in australia?me totally newbie to this but intend to go driving holiday in sydney and melbourne in sep so i intend to get a garmin gps....

 

will it be cheaper if i go australia to get the garmin (does australia have 200w?) and then when i need to use in malaysia or singapore to download the free map frm malsing..

 

btw i will be going to brisbane tommorrow night for work so i hope to get it first then use it for driving holiday in sep...

 

any advice is greatly appreciated

Garmin is from US. Navman is from NZ. I do not know which is cheaper there but you may like to consider these 2.

Most ordered from US,Australia,not so sure....make a search b4 buying.

i don't think you will get cheaper in australia.just look at the rate .and a lot of electronic stuff here still cheaper.

If you going self drive, then you need to plan your trip and load way points.

 

You do not have much time to do the loading of map and set way points in Australia, unless you are going there for months.

 

Buy a HTC PDA phone with build in GPS, it is much more better than owning a Garmin.

Buying in sing is cheaper if u say the set only.

 

if u need aust maps. buy there. coz normally bunden up with aust maps.

 

in singapore , when with aust maps.. can cost u easily a 300 bucks more.

You need not buy Australia map if you are using Garmin, as there are free map available.

I have tried the map for Western Australia and New Zealand only.

 

For New Zealand map, if you combine the map from different contributor, an error will occur at Christchurch and Auckland. To overcome the error at Christchurch, I had to set different waypoint for inside and outside the city. The worst error is at Auckland and I had to delete the log file to continue the journey.
