I used Fujitsu inverter with 4 ticks, it really save electricity, my house useage was above average, after changing to inverter, become below average consumption. Before, the electricity tariff increase, I save about $50.00 a month. After the increase, the savings should be about $60. a month. I feel it is worth every penny.

Me using Toshiba System 4, the latest one with 4 ticks.

Very good and electrict saving, especially when select to ECO mode. Low noise, effic cooling and . Setting 26C at night is cool and comfortable.

Seeing not much increase in $ thou. almost every night on for 2 bedrooms and occassionally the hall unit.

Bought from Gain City then at $3799, I did upgrade the tube and insulation and added extended warranty.All to $4200. With free gifts like DVD recorder (250G) and cooking wok and pan.

 

Love the aircon since day 1 and now my new personal office also using the same aircon and also always setting to 25-26C is damn cool enough.

As this is related to this thread, didn't want create another one.

 

I was looking for replacement for aircon sometime back and repairing the old split 4 wasn't worth it.

 

After some research, I find inverter aircon indeed save significant $$ if you are those on high side of usage. And decided on Toshiba Split 4 (3 bedrm + 1 living rm) inverter as it has high btu of 22k for living rm and condensor is made in jap versus to Jack Neo's Mit Starmex made in Thai. Cost around 3.4k with armaflex insulator (black insulator, used in olympic 2008 beijing) class 1, copper 23 and 16mm diameter of pvc pipping. Workmanship excellent and the contractor helped seal up the holes created by the installation.

 

When buying aircon, just take note that price is not everything - secondary factor. The main factor is the installation workmanship, see whether their past history feedback. Hope this helps for those looking for split aircon. Just wanna share my experience.

I have Mitsubishi inverter system 3. For me never notice any effect, but that's because our usage is very very low. For most nights we just turn on the fan. I think inveter is only more energy efficient if you are a heavy user, and comparing it to normal air-con.

Old aircon is either "on" or "off" the compressor to reach the required temperature.

 

Inverter aircon is controlling the compressor using variable drives... so there is reduce "ramping up"

 

jus like how to drive ur car.... if u remove ur leg from the accelerator paddle.. when the car slow down.. u need to hit the accelerator harder to achieve back the same speed.

 

but if u had been stepping on the accelerator gently throughout the journey... u realise u do not need to hit the accelerator hard.. to achieve the same speed.

Using Toshiba Inverter 3room + 1 hall.

 

Previously using the Carrier System 5. Which never gave me the performance....and uses electricity like mad !! My usage is on from 10pm to next morning 6am for 2 rooms. Hall is on when guest comes for visiting....maybe 10 times a year...monthly PUB bill....$400. (not all from air con)

 

Changed to Toshiba Inverter....bill drop to $250 ave...(all other stuff equal)

 

I got mine from Gain City....sign a 5yrs maintenance package with them...all parts and labour I dun need to pay for 5yrs.

 

Service from Gain City for the past 1.5yr has been good...they will call you to make appointment.

I am also using an inverter - Mitsubishi. Air con on in all 3 bedrooms every night from 9 pm until the next day but electricity bill still below $300/mth. Very happy with it.

This is the way of the future, and a good idea. Just make sure you hire a company that can complete a quality installation, have competent techs, and offer a good warranty, and you're OK.

Now 10 years since the thread started dunno the apartment by now enbloc or AC changed how many times already .....nowadays if new AC can last 5 years is considered good
